Cliff Booth vs. the Bride

Two of the toughest characters to ever appear in a Tarantino film. Who would win in a fight?

The Bride was able to slaughter 30+ men at once with a sword, but Cliff was able to hold his own against (and even dominate) Bruce Lee in a fight. These two feats even each other out, I'd say.

Any thoughts?

reply

Nope.

reply

Then why did you respond?

reply

Maybe you could have phrased the question differently if you didn't want "no" answers.

That's like going up to a receptionist's desk, waiting for them to ask "How may I help you?", only to say "no thanks" before walking out. Rather pointless, isn't it?

reply

In no way is it like that.

reply

No, it's pretty much exactly like that.

reply

No, that's a ridiculous comparison.

reply

The Bride was pulling off some crazy wuxia moves like punching through a coffin, plucking eyeballs, and the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. She’s too skilled for Cliff.

reply

UNLESS... he has a harpoon at hand, and casually invites her for a beer on his boat.

reply

pretty sure the Bride would win.

reply

I'd put my money on The Bride, even without the sword.

reply

If they were both tripping on acid at the time, I'd go with Cliff.

reply

The Bride belongs to another universe, she essentially has superpowers so she would probably win.

reply

My money is on Cliff. Yeah the Bride is good but it’s over the top, Cliff is more realistic. I think he’d keep it simple and just prevail over her complex approach to a fight.

reply

Maybe, but as a previous commenter mentioned, she's more of a superhero than a real person, and Cliff is the quintessential real man. This is sort of like asking if John McClane can beat Superman. In his own world, McClane is unbeatable, but at the end of the day he's a regular guy. Superman be all super.

If the Bride can take on an army of 88 trained martial artists, all armed with swords, along with that ball-and-chain teenager, and still have the energy to outfight a trained sword and martial arts master like Lucy Liu's character, it seems unlikely that Cliff would be able to beat her. It wasn't even clear he could beat Bruce Lee. Bruce knocked him on his ass, then made the mistake of repeating the move and got knocked on his own ass.

reply

Yeah the Bride is in a different universe where the laws of physics don’t apply, she was practically flying at one point. But In a more realistic world Cliff would kill her.

And it clearly showed Cliff was about to beat Bruce Lee. Bruce tried that flying kick move, and while it knocked Cliff down...it didn’t seem to phase him too much. He got up...looked a little annoyed and dared him to do it again, which Bruce tried to and got his ass slammed against a car door. Then when they went toe to toe Cliff was clearly the better man, and it looked like he was about to hurt Bruce before that director lady(Kurt Russell’s onscreen wife) intervened and castigated Cliff for beating up
The series lead.

Cliff Booth is a unique character. Fighting skills wise he’s up there with Jason Bourne...except even there he’s more realistic. He’s a Green Beret war hero, from WWII and Korea. God knows what he’s done in those hellish circumstances. But despite all that he’s got this cool swagger about him, he’s not phased by most people or things. He takes events in stride and is content with his life. Despite his frightening ability to kill with maximum efficiency...he’s not a braggart about it. He resists that temptation. He’s chill and laidback to the point where most guys wish they were him.

One of the best characters conjured up by Tarantino, and Pitt nailed it.

reply

The Bride. She's a paid assassin and the martial arts she has are in another league.
