This movie is promoting stripping...

...And it shouldn't. This movie barely touched on the horrors of being a stripper. It made stripping look like it was a fun sexy job, when the reality is that strippers go through terrible things "just to entertain their clients." Most women who have worked in strip clubs will tell you that they're not just taken advantaged of, but they're also sexually, verbally, and physically assaulted by their customers. Apparently, these things happen on a day-to-day basis. They also say that's it's rare to see strippers form friendships. In fact, strippers are actually quite vicious to one another. The conditions are so bad that these women have to turn to drug and alcohol abuse, just to be able to handle their jobs.

I understand if someone disagrees with me. I'm not saying the women in this film had it easy. My problem is that J-Lo, and everyone else involved in this movie, has tried to pass this off as being "female empowerment." I think this is the wrong message to young girls. This lifestyle the shouldn't be praised.

own free will

there are lots of skanks and hoes out there, don't paint strippers as innocent angels

reply

or the drugs and alcoholism come first and stripping is a way to fund it.

but strip clubs are going away. people are too progressive now, and women can earn more as internet cam girls in the safety of their own home.

reply

Cam sites are dying. Free Tube sites are all the rage.

reply

The internet is a series of tubes.

reply

which tube do i go inside?

reply

LOL. . .No. Just. . .no. Strip clubs are NOT going away, and never will.

Look up "world's oldest profession."

reply

You ought to drive through my town. There are several and parking lots are packed at night. Clubs aren’t going away, but attractive strippers are.

From what I’m hearing, it’s all fat old cows now that you don’t want to see dressed, let alone naked. I think the hot ones are going online.

I used to go all the time years ago but I won’t go near those skank palaces these days, especially with Covid.

reply

yes, especially when even the preview shows tons of cash, shopping etc. i haven't seen it yet but it does seem as if it would send this message.

reply

Only for people who don't think clearly.

People are ridiculous: Does Die Hard promote running around skyscrapers during a terrorist attack? Does Casablanca promote club ownership during WWII? Does Dexter promote serial killing? Does Singing in the Rain promote singing in the rain?

It's such a common, tiresome argument. . .that movies *imply.* This movie. . .like every other. . .describes a series of specific events. If you extrapolate those events to Every Strip Club In The World And Every Stripper That Works There, then that is on You.

It's not the movie's fault if people draw those conclusions.

and it shame all these actresses are Radical Feminists I was especially disappointed that Lilli Reinhart didn't show her tits it was all there

This kind of happens anytime strippers/prostitutes as the focus come to mainstream cinema. For example, Pretty Woman was supposed to be about the dark side of prostitution and drug abuse. Instead, it was turned into a romantic drama that, far from decrying the ugly side of chasing dollars, pushed capitalism - much like this film is doing. Why doesn't anyone in cinema want to show a more balanced portrayal of capitalism, or at least realistically show some of the consequences of using your body as trade? It's definitely something to ponder.

reply

Disney ain't putting out no dark side of prostitution movie.

reply

I can't argue with you there.

reply

Send them over to Ice Cube's The Players Club.

It's been a while since I've seen the movie and to me it was forgettable, but I'm pretty sure they did show some of the dark side of Stripping. Wasn't that the whole point, stripping sucked and that's why they were rolling the guys because of the disrespect?

After the movie, the real people the movie was based on did admit that they were not as friendly as the movie portrayed.
They were cordial enough to keep a professional business.

reply

lmao once a whore, always a whore. Strippers are just hookers scared to catch aids.

reply

A little known fact , unless your a porn addict. Porn stars, strip and hook for money. How do I know these things.

reply
