Famous actor was initially cast in bathroom brawl but dropped out as 'couldn’t keep pace with Cruise and Cavill'

The brutal four-minute bathroom brawl with Cavill’s character August Walker and Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in Fallout was originally going to include another well-known male actor in the sequence’s third role.

The idea was that audiences would be surprised that Hunt and Walker’s target was played by this other actor, then would be even more shocked when the character was abruptly killed off. The actor was put into a “fight evaluation” but couldn’t keep pace with Cruise and Cavill — which is why one of the film’s stuntmen, Liang Yang, was cast as the scene’s third fighter. “It’s a sequence other actors, when learning the level of commitment required, simply opted out,” McQuarrie says.

Wonder who it was? Jon Hamm? Sam Worthington? Matt Damon? (ok probably not him)

also McQuarrie dosnt rule out Cavill returning in MI8 (flashback?)
Walker was killed off in Fallout, a move that McQuarrie says fans have given him endless grief about on social media, yet the franchise has methods of bringing back familiar faces. Cavill doesn’t appear in the upcoming seventh film, but an appearance in the planned eighth film remains possible. “I’m in the process of rewriting Mission: 8 right now, this afternoon I could turn a page and any actor from the past could come back,” the director teases. “There is no such thing as death in movies, only unavailability.”

No idea who it is but it's amazing that Tom Cruise in his 50s is still able to execute fight scenes that younger actors take a look at and just go, "Nope."

reply

Could it have been Liam Neeson I wonder

reply

Surely not.

I mean, I appreciate Neeson's action-thrillers, but it's clear that he doesn't have anything close to the physical ability to do the kind of shit that would be required for that bathroom fight scene. I can't imagine the producers would even consider him.

reply

Are you joking?

Liam Neeson keeps perfoming fantastic action scenes. What movies have you been watching?

reply

Well most recently I saw The Ice Road, The Marksman, Honest Thief and Cold Pursuit. If anything, the director may be good at showing the ILLUSION of "fantastic action," but if you look closely Neeson is not actually being that physical, certainly not physical like in the bathroom fight scene in M:I Fallout.

reply

But he surely can be very physical. He even knows martial arts.

reply

I'm betting it was Benedict Cumberbatch.

reply

Or Hiddleston? (he did that spy series but like BC most likely hasn't had any extensive hand to hand combat training )

Or maybe Pegg asked a Trek costar if they'd be up for it and Pine or Quinto or Urban had a go

reply

Who?

reply

Daniel Craig was approached for a cameo but a deal was never secured. The Paris bathroom sequence was shot I'm Hertfordshire, UK not France.
Keanu Reeves came in after he had completed the European leg of the John Wick 2 tour. This was before principal photography had started. He was there for a few days. The security was insane so I'm not sure what part he came in for.

reply

Wow it was Keanu? That would've been insane (and Craig would've been just as crazy even more so). how do you know this stuff?

reply

I sometimes work as a production manager or location manager on motion pictures, TV shows and ads. Just to be clear I can't confirm if Mr Reeves was the actor you are referring to.

reply

Ok interesting nonetheless

reply

I'd guess Keanu's highly unlikely

That's just because, given how much work he puts into the Wick movies, I have a hard time believing he couldn't "keep up"

But then again, Cruise in general and Mission films in particular are known for their over-the-top pacing and physicality, so I could very well be wrong

Even Matt Damon admits he can't keep up with Cruise, albeit for different reasons:

TLDR: Cruise fired his "safety guy" for telling him the Burj Khalifa stunt was too dangerous, and Damon had to concede, "you win"

brosnan?

clive owen?

or maybe Hardy or Fassbender

someone with 007 credenitials

reply

Im kind of surprised it hasn't come out who it was..

I'm not ... M:I films in general, the last four in particular, have been amazingly haphazard by Hollywood big-budget standards. They often work without a script.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if more than one "famous actor" were in contention for "Asian John Lark," with none of them close to confirmed.

reply

So who was it after all?

reply

Statham?

reply

That's impossible because he surely would be capable of doing this action scene.

reply

use your damn brain and figure it out. there's a few actors that Im thinking of where they "backed out" due to commitment to other movies like the Marvel Comics movies

Jeremy Renner - makes sense since he was really busy with the Marvel movies

reply

I believe a rumour, and have no reason to suspect it's untrue, that the actor in question was Peter Dinklage.

reply

I would love to believe this and I hope there's footage of Peter Dinklage being thrown around by Tom Cruise.
