"Finish what the Ghostbusters started"

I heard that line in the clip uploaded to youtube. I'm surprised those in the enraged nerdosphere haven't jumped on it and declared that this movie "ruins" the ending of the original movie and throws the original GBs achievements under the bus.

It proves that the outrage that these losers express over these things is just a game.

Alternatively, it could have something to do with the current production team not going out of their way to insult their own audience.

Either that, or most people really can't bring themselves to care about any more so-called "Ghostbusters" reboots or sequels or what have you; Lord knows I can't.

Huh? It's exactly the kind of thing that nerds call an insult to the original characters and to the fans.

reply

As compared to the director flat out telling all fans of old ghostbusters being sexists? Yeah you need to redefine your definition of insult.

reply

Shut up. Nobody called all fans of old ghostbusters sexist. And you know that.

reply

The director of the 2016 version did.

reply

Jesus. Do you actually believe he called all fans of the old ghostbusters sexist? Did someone tell you that? Did you bother to check up on it? Or does it just suit your petulant narrative to believe or repeat such an obviously bullshit claim?

reply

The director herself told me that. You could have easily found that out by just doing a cursive search on it.

reply

You could just as easily have provided a link.

And did she call your prison cell to tell you what she thinks of all GB fans, yeah?

reply

IT IS THE ONLY SEQUEL...SINCE GHOSTBUSTERS 2...THAT 2016 THING WAS A DIFFERENT UNIVERSE AND SUCKS...AFTERLIFE IS WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JASON REITMAN,SON OF ORIGINAL GHOSTBUSTERS MASTERMIND,IVAN REITMAN...IT DESERVES A CHANCE AT THE VERY LEAST.

THERE ARE PHOTOS OF LITTLE JASON RUNNING AROUND THE ORIGINAL GHOSTBUSTERS SET...I LOVE THE IDEA OF HIM BEING BEHIND THE SEQUEL.

reply

Wrong thread.

TRY MASTURBATING...MIGHT CALM YOUR ASS DOWN A BIT.

reply

No you carry on by yourself.

reply

It's a pretty bloated franchise with games and cartoons and comics. There's not really anything to finish. There's no ending where the supernatural side gets all sealed up and the world goes back to some kind of normalcy and our heroes happily retire.

reply

It's easy to miss (I wasn't aware of this until recently), but in the two "cannon" Ghostbusters films ghosts only appear in New York as a result of particular paranormal phenomena (the Shandor conductor in the first, the mood slime in the second) that act as a kind of lighting rod for ghosts, and once they are gone the ghosts stop coming to the city, which is why they went out of business between films. The cartoons, comics, games, reboots etc are a different matter.

reply

As I recall they went out of business between films because they were sued and an injunction was issued forbidding them from operating. Which was whyi they were reduced to contracting birthday parties.

reply

Yeah you may be right in that, but it is also implied that there had been no ghost in the interim between the two films.

reply

And you might be right, there. I don't recall if other ghosts had appeared in the interim or they addressed that. Either one, let alone both, would but them out of business.

reply

He's right. All of the legal stuff is resolved at the beginning because it's dropped when ghosts come back. Up to that point, people have started to think all the events of the 1984 movie were a sham- a big light show or something.
Also, Ray says in Afterlife that something similar happened after the 2nd movie.

reply

Haha butthurt that people aren't hating on it.

reply

Far from it. I'm just using the whining nerd-gatekeeper's playbook to show how it's just a game to them.

reply

That's what you're pretending to do.

Truth is if it was a talentless, unfunny mess that sucked ass like the 2016 film then it would have copped the same response, but it isn't.

What happened is you just found out that not everyone is political about movies like you are LOL

reply

Wow. Gobbledygook. Nice to hear it sometimes.

reply

Hehe you think the politics of a movie is why people think its good/bad.

Struggling with the reality check I see 🤣

reply

You're the only person talking about politics here. I'm just talking about whining loser fanboys.

reply

Gobbledygook? Is that you Laura?

reply

There's always the outrage game. Either something is too woke or it's too derivative of the past.
The 2016 GB didn't let jokes breath. The actresses were improvising as many jokes as they could. The director encouraged this which caused the jokes to stepped over each other. After a short period, it got tedious and the story was not interesting enough because you would get constant commentary.

In 2021, the movie allowed the story and jokes to breath which made it easier for the audience to invest.

I rewatched bridesmaids after 2016 and the cast didn't have this issue which is why that's a better movie than 2016 GB. Good talent, bad direction.

reply

Guess the film puts that issue to rest (if it's even an issue)

The Ghostbusters themselves, all four of them, showed up to finish what they started - to stop Gozer by trapping it instead of just closing the gate

Egon's tech made it possible; the new characters just enabled it. Since two of them were themselves Spenglers, it's hard to say there was any disrespect

And while I found Podcast annoying, I give him props for solving the pick-proof lock problem. I'll admit I LOL'ed when his gaze fell on the Muncher's trap.

reply

It doesn't matter how you spin it. They contrived a storyline which retconned the conclusion of the original film so that the Ghostbusters had actually failed and now they need a girl and her friends to help them redeem themselves.

I'm beginning to doubt your real fan/nerd credentials. You should be asking for someone at Sony to lose her job over this.

reply

It's just a movie. Jeez.

reply

No. It's not just a movie. It's supposed to be vindication for everyone who is a real Ghostbusters fan and hated that they made the 2016 reboot.

reply

Oh, I hated the 2016 reboot. I gave it 1/10 stars for insulting me. This movie is like 100x better than that piece of turd.

reply

Thank you for proving my point in the OP.
