Ways to kill Thanos that came to me while watching this.

When Dr. Strange's teleporting circles close they sever anything still in them....like the Space Hulk guy's hand.

Strange could have opened and closed those circles on Thanos and cut him to bits.

On Vormir.....why didn't Gomora just shove him while he stood on the edge.

reply

For the last one, Thanos is several times stronger than her.

reply

Oh yeah, Thor could have killed Thanos. If he would have just finished him off, shoved the ax right through him or chopped his head off instead of holding off, waiting for Thanos to get his words out he would have died.

reply

Yep, hence Thor's spiral into depression. His desire to gloat gave Thanos the opportunity to recover.

reply

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. He literally was right there....saving EVERYONE and he thought he was safe and had won and could have, would have won if he didn't revel in the victory and gloat over Thanos and just stand there looking into his eyes.....kind of with the spirit of "Ha Thanos! Who got the last laugh, look what I'm doing to you".

If he just followed up the wounded blow with a killing blow without the gloating all would have lived. That must have really eaten him up and been a big reason why he took it so badly (even though all were grieving in their own ways).

reply

That one is pretty obvious and is a major part of the plot of Endgame as well as Thor's character arc.

reply

Yes, but for a good bit there, he was just standing right on the edge with his back to Gamora. She went on her little speech about how he loved nothing and no one. They flipped to a high camera shot looking down on them to reveal he is like a foot or two from the edge.

A probably better argument then "he is too strong" (because anyone who stands on two legs can be thrown off balance with a good, hard, two handed, stepping into it with all your weight, shove....especially when it is unexpected and your knees are locked and all your weight is upright) is that if he reacted quickly enough he could have used the gauntlet to change reality or teleported somewhere else with the space stone before hitting the ground.

Of course with his power and strength (just like Hulk) a fall probably wouldn't have killed him....unless the Soul stone takes the life, "soul" because that is the sacrificial area....I don't know how it works at the Vormir sacrifice alter.

reply

A two year old child would not be strong enough to push an adult. That is the strength difference.

reply

Are you really going to die on this hill?

You are bringing up children now?
Do you even know who Gamora is? She is a trained killer with enhanced abilities.

You are arguing that a flat footed Thanos standing on a ledge with his back to Gamora can't be shoved off by her? This is the angle you won't let go?

Fine, we disagree. You believe that.....I don't, now let's go our separate ways.

reply

No reason to get angry dude.

reply

I would have to agree. We saw what a fully nanotech-powered Iron Man was capable of against Thanos. A mere scratch. Gamora is a cunning fighter but she isn't Iron Man.

reply

Exactly. Gamora does not have the strength to push Thanos anywhere. We see him calmly dragging her by the wrist at one point and she was a ragdoll in his hands.

reply

He's clearly protected from beginner-level magic like that. As for Gamora-- she doesn't have the strength to push him around that way, even when he isn't armed with 4 Infinity Stones.

reply

Yeap, the portals is the most obvious. why did the directors showed 2 occasions at the.beginning of IW of the portals cutting like lightsabers?

About throwing Thanos. he has the Reality Stone, he could grow.some wings or something

reply

Wouldn't be much of a movie if they had thrown sense into it.

reply

That wasn't the point. I'm just pointing out places they actually could have gotten him. The fact that the movie would end at that stage isn't the point. I'm just pointing them out because it is fun to talk about.

reply

I'm pretty 100% sure that the point they want to make in the whole series is that Thanos cannot be defeated by the avengers in ANY way.
He is stronger than all of them put together even without the stones.

They manage to kill him only with the stones: either by using them (end of film) or because they exploded on him, almost killing him and definitely maiming him to a defeatable state (when Thor kills him).

reply

Or Ant-Man could have shrunk down and crawled up his ACE - then turned giant and destroyed him?

reply

Gross but it would probably work.

reply

Throughout the whole entire films I kept wondering why nobody ever thought to just chop off BOTH of Thanos' arms!

No arms, no snap. *Simple*

In fact, if they had chopped off his arms FIRST, and THEN killed him, that would have def saved them a lot of time. There were so many times when he was held captive. I'm just shocked nobody thought to distract him on one end, and then have someone take an ax and cut off his arms.

It's VERY hard to fight when you don't have one arm...let alone two.

JMHO

reply

It didn't come down to a literal snap of the fingers, but rather a simple act of will. The snap of the fingers was merely a physical extension of this.

And, I'm assuming, that any deep contact with the gauntlet with any available appendage -- not just someone's hand/arm -- would release the power to the individual. After all, some beings in the Universe aren't humanoid and those that are may be maimed.
