After this, how many more?

Seriously, 20+ movies about people in spandex fighting a thing that shoots a laser into the sky.

How many more movies before you stop paying attention?

reply

If done creatively ...indefinitely.

reply

What movies would you prefer to see made? Please enlighten us as to how deep a thinker and how intellectual your taste is while dismissing films you consider beneath you.

reply

Here's a list of much better movies that don't require a "verse"
Hell or High Water,
No Country for old men
Seven
Zodiac
The Shawshank Redemption
Once upon a time in the West
Kelly's Heroes
Dirty Harry
The Usual Suspects
Fallen
They Live
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

That's just a couple that put all Marvel and DC movies to shame.

reply

There is plenty of room to like all kinds of movies.

reply

But those have all been made, and none are in any way intrinsically better than a movie featuring a superhero. What makes a film about a cowboy with seemingly superhuman shooting prowess or a tough as nails cop who refuses to play by the rules any better than one featuring, say, Iron Man?

We have our likes and dislikes. The difference is you think the movies you like best are worthy of admiration, and those you don't are not worth anyone's attention.

reply

Haha, who cares what this clown has to say, Avengers: Endgame is a month away and it's probably one of the most highly anticipated films of all time. Stay at home opening night and watch one of those movies you listed instead, nobody cares.

reply

You cared to look at the thread. Enjoy your movies.

reply

You don’t enjoy them but you care enough to continue spewing haterade thinking we’ll ...what? Think you’re still me super classy intellectual?

Because puddin’....you failed at that.

Now go chase those kids off your lawn.

reply

What makes them better?
Acting, sets, real locations, stories with an arc, no need to see 20+ movie for a story, no need for insane amounts of CGI, women wearing real clothes, etc...

Disney keeps hitting fans with movie after movie which causes them to forget how lame the previous film was. Iron man was fine. Avengers has consistently been a poorly plotted mess with jokes. The characters aren't developing and the studio keeps shoving loki in because they can't make a decent bad guy. Thanos was close because he had a purpose, but that won't matter. He'll be defeated and they'll have another bad guy who wants to destroy everything that is "all too powerful."

reply

One of the most remarkable aspects of the MCU is that each film can be seen on its own, with no prior knowledge of any other films, or even the knowledge that there were other films, and be fully understood and appreciated. That said, again-- this comes down to preference. You dislike the films of the MCU? So be it. You're in the minority, but there's no shame in that. Not everyone enjoys or appreciates all forms of art, and even works praised by critics and laymen alike fall flat in the eyes of some.

Go watch what you consider to be better films, but before you go, ask yourself-- what are you so insecure about that you need to come to a board dedicated to a film you dislike and announce to everyone that your taste in movies is better than theirs?

reply

Well said FilmBuff

These are critically acclaimed and popular movies. The characters and stories resonate with people because they love a hero's journey story, just like Star Wars (the original trilogy.) Yes I'll probably be less interested after Avengers: Endgame as that is the closing chapter in what is now being called "The Infinity Saga" but with the rights to Fantastic Four and X-Men now back in Marvel Studios hands they could potentially still have another 10 years worth of movies if they carry on with this level of quality.

reply

Critically acclaimed means nothing in the glutted critic market of modern media. It's not a good gage of film quality because anyone can become a critic regardless of experience, education, or employer. In te end, its an echochamber for fans or haters.

As for the heroe's journey, I recommend you look it up in its base form. You'll see that most genres do the same structure. They even do it better than comic book movies (please refer to my list of better examples). These films only do it with more CGI and worse characters.

I know you love the movies, but That's not where I stand. I find them to be overhyped and boring. I used to believe that the Lord of the Rings was the greatest series. It was hype. They're just boring movies with great CGI.

" I used to believe that the Lord of the Rings was the greatest series. It was hype. They're just boring movies with great CGI."

In your opinion maybe, but for most like me, Lord of the Rings will never be boring and I don't think it was over hyped. I would have agreed with you if you said The Hobbit. I hated those films as it was made for profit, but LOTRs is a classic that had a lot of love and hard work going into making it. It had a mixture of CGI and set build and the work that went into making the costumes was amazing. Maybe the final film was rushed but you have to give credit where credit is due.

reply

We'll agree to disagree.

reply

You call it art. Art can be criticized. Thats why I posted. I honestly am surprised you find them to be good. It's not just Marvel, DC is just as bad. I ask you this: If Im in the minority, why do you feel you need to defend it? It's apparently amazing to you... or... you realize that the hype is better than the product. Don't believe me? Re-read the reviews from sources that aren't fanboys or industry specific. You'll see that the hype is more the product then the actual films.

reply

I'm hyped for the movie, its very enjoyable thus far, just like I liked mainstream Cinema in the 80s ,Star Wars, ET, BTTF, Raiders, I also like non main stream movies , Place Beyond The Pines, Gattaca, Lord of War, Swimming With Sharks , The Water Diviner , Marvel movies are good old fashioned fun that are popular for that very reason, fun , not everyone wants to watch Shawshank Redemption every week, even though its an incredible film.

reply

That's fair. I don't care for them, but people like brainless fun.

As for the weekly viewings of Shawshank, I agree, but see that behavior from horror nuts.

reply

Honest question. If you dont care for them, why are you posting on the boards?

reply

Because they're everywhere in advertisement each year. Its as annoying as teen sci-fi drama films.

reply

It will always be like this, what ever way studios can make a buck, if its not Marvel it will be something else, that's why I like to try and catch different flavours of movies, I really enjoyed Hell or High Water, 13 Hours, Thunder Road, Predestination which blew me away, but movies like this I really like from time to time, if its all I watched then, jeez, id be really fed up.

reply

Actually, it's gotten worse over the years. Production companies are dwindling in number. Disney is pushing most production and the variety is dwindling. If its not a nostalgia peice or remake, its a teen book series. The dramas are just as bad with the formulaic social messages. Its a bland market.

reply

I watched all of them and most all boring compard to mcu movies

reply

Funny because I would say the opposite.

reply

It's funny. One of my cousins doesn't like the superhero genre but he also hates the action genre. Which was what was making all the money at theaters before superhero movies were as common as they are now.

reply

I agree. Movies like Taken and crank are awful.

reply

It’s all preference. I grew up reading a lot of Marvel comics, never actually thought I’d see a cinematic universe with all of these characters and I don’t really find any of them boring.

But then again I don’t find The Lord of the Rings movies boring either, they have great characters that help drive the story and keep you invested in my opinion.

Now Fast & Furious movies are definitely full of one note characters acting macho, those movies to me are boring with the whole forced ‘family’ dynamic but people who love action movies and cars seem to get a kick out of it.

reply

But a lot of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone movies are pretty entertaining. Mainly talking ones from the 80s and 90s.

reply

Commando. Pure crap, but good with friends and a bottle of whiskey. Not sure if it's as cliche as Tango and Cash.

reply

I can enjoy it without an alcoholic beverage. Frankly I don't drink. I take too many medications to do it.

reply

It sucks you need the med but you're not missing out on much with alcohol. It's there for the oneliner game.

reply

Well it's part of getting older. I'm only in my 30s but still got to take stuff for thyroid, stomach issues, and allergies. I had my colon and most of my large intestine taken out in December of 2014 and have pretty well been unable to stomach drinking since then. It also changed what I can eat. I can no longer eat raw vegetables or Salsa. My current Grandparents who are alive both take a ton of medications and have had to take them for years so, it seems there's no choice in the matter. The older you get the more medications you have to take.

reply

Either until the quality dips really badly for several movies in a row, or until I'm dead to be honest. I love the universe they have built and even without the heroes we've grown with over the last decade, I'm excited to see what the future holds.

Plus, what's good about superhero films is that they can explore many different genres. Guardians of the Galaxy is a space opera. Captain America Winter Soldier is a spy/espionage film. Spider-Man Homecoming is a coming of age story. What people don't realize is that "superhero" isn't actually a genre. It's more of an element or trope.

reply

You have a choice : stop watching them , why you come here to complain ? You think they would stop making them because of your complaints ? They would just laugh at you , with the shitload of money they're making i doubt they will stop anytime soon , be ready for another 20+ movies for the next 10 years.

reply

I think you're replying to the wrong person. I'm definitely not complaining. I love the MCU 😂

reply

Not replying to you

reply

Exactly this.

They’re probably not going to stop at a Spider-Man movie trilogy. They really don’t want to reboot that character again so I can see that going for as long as Holland is contracted for.

Then you’ve got a third Guardians movie, Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Captain Marvel sequels, heck they’ll probably make a third Ant-Man film as well.

Throw in the X-Men and Fantastic Four as well and this universe isn’t going anywhere.

reply

Also I feel there's a chance at a Miles Morales Spider-Man too whether he teams up with Hollands Spider-Man or has his own thing. Unless having Aaron Davis in Homecoming was more of an Easter egg. They also really seem to be setting up a Young Avengers/New Avengers film
