Three actors who won't be back in the MCU again

So I was wondering about a few former stars who had graced early MCU films, notably Edward Norton, Hugo Weaving and Jaimie Alexander. Everyone pretty much knows about Norton's issues but I was not aware of Weaving's or Alexander's parting of the ways, so I did some research. Turns out they have prima-donna inclinations, much like Norton. That's a shame as I really like all three of them, yet if they can't seize upon the bigger picture [that they are a part of something really historic in the MCU], then I don't want them in the movies.
Give us lesser known actors/actresses who will relish being in this universe and give their all to a part to bring a character to life.
And that's not stating that I think Norton, Weaving or Alexander did a bad job, it's actually the opposite. They all did very well but I want people in those roles who are happy and excited to have those roles. That's all I'm saying.

It has more to do with finding something worthwhile for Sif and Red Skull to do in the MCU way more than it has to do with them being prima donnas. Norton was replaced so it's understandable he won't return. Feige has bigger things to do than build a new franchise around the Warriors Three, but I would bet that if they ever needed an actress to play Sif in the MCU, and not just be a one or two-day shoot, they could get Alexander to return. They might even get Weaving to do some voice acting since Red Skull is now CGI.

reply

Also...the Warriors Three were killed in Thor: Ragnarok

reply

Right. Feige allowed it because it was the third Thor film.

reply

I had heard that Weaving just refused to put on the Red Skull prosthetics again.

Why would he work so much as a character actor if he's got Diva tendencies? That doesn't seem right, and I haven't heard such rumors from anyone else.

reply

Exactly what I heard. The same thing as Alan Cummings said about playing Nightcrawler and Edward G Robinson said about Doctor Zaius. It had nothing to do with the part or the script or the studio....they just HATED the prosthetic appliances..

reply

The Forbidden Zone was once a paradise, seeeeee. Your breed made a desert of it ages ago, you dirty rats!

reply

I want to laugh....but you're mocking my all time favorite franchise. So, in the spirit of the apes, I fling my poo at you.

reply

Jamie Alexander isn't difficult to work with. She just has her own show. She wanted to be in Ragnarok but her schedule wouldn't allow it.

reply

That's what I read about her on zergnet.com. Also, I would certainly reshuffle my schedule to be in the biggest comic book movie of all time. Perhaps I'm wrong.

reply

She's the star of her own show and TV schedules are very tight. She probably couldn't get out of the contract to do Ragnarok. I don't think she was ever slated to appear in Infinity War, though, if that's what you're referring to.

reply

Well she's definitely nice to look at and played a good role. I liked her. Apparently the Russos alluded to who might be back and who won't be back. Lady Sif was mentioned as not returning.

reply

You're wrong. Stars can't just "shuffle" their TV schedules. There was this guy in the 1980s who was kind of a big deal on TV and a studio wanted him to star in their sci-fi comedy. He wanted to, but the studio of his TV would not let him go so he could do it. So the studio went to another guy and when that didn't work out, the TV star did his show during the day and made the movie at night in a truly nightmarish schedule.

That star? Michael J Fox
The TV show? Family Ties.
The movie? Back to the Future.

Jamie Alexander is no Michael J Fox.
Blindspot is no Family Ties
Thor 3 is no Back to the Future.

reply

Fair enough.

reply

Well said, TJ.

I'd also point out that Michael J Fox was playing an important main character in his film while Jamie Alexander would have been reprising the role of a character who barely had 20 minutes of combined screen time over two films. I wouldn't blame her for not wanting to run back to that.

reply

VERY true. Imagine if Martys brother Dave (Marc McClure) had a TV show and tried to dictate one or the other change their schedule so he could do both.....

reply

LOL! But "I'll miss my bus!", "Time to change that oil" and "Marty, I always wear a suit to the office" are such compelling performances!

Truth be told, though, I can remember those three lines off the top of my head and not one single line from Sif if I tried other than "Thor".

Some of it is obviously just nostalgia but I also attribute it to my belief that bit-role characters were just handled so much better back then. So many memorable small parts in Back to the Future alone:

-The cafe worker: "Ya gonna order somethin' kid?!" and "I can't get ya a tab unless ya orda' somethin'!" and "If ya want a pepsi, pal, ya gonna PAY for it!"

-Lorraine's father: "What'd you do, kid, jump ship? What's with the life preserver?" and "He's an idiot. Parents were probably idiots, too. Lorraine, if you ever have a son that acts like that I'll disown you"

-Lorraine's mother: "Would you quit fiddling with that thing and come and eat your DINNER!" and "I think you should stay with us, Marty--I think you're our responsibility"

Anyway, I got off on a tangent but your reference made me think of how many small role characters I just sat here and thought off the top of my head what their lines were. Not one--not ONE from Sif or the rest of the Warriors Three. Nothing. I really attribute a lot of that to the writing of movies being better back in the good old days.

I watched Die Hard last Christmas and it dawned on me: You just don't get movies like this anymore. Sad, really.

reply

What's really sad is that you don't need movies like that anymore...you just need the news.

reply

I hate dragging discussions into political territory but I just can't miss the opportunity to mention this: Biff in the alternate 1985 of Back to the Future 2...I'm sure you know this, but it was confirmed by the creators that he was supposed to be based on Donald Trump. Explains the Biff tower, hair and everything.

If you ask me, it's eerie because if Trump was allowed the have the freedom of power that Biff apparently had I could see our cities looking much like how Hill Valley did in Back to the Future 2--maybe even worse.

There was more truth in Back to the Future 2 than I ever realized.

What I love about the Back to the Future series is they come from a time when politics in films existed but were subtle and worked so well into the storylines that they didn't feel pretentious, forced or preachy--they were simply a commentary on the times.

You're right, though--we live in an era where the news shows us a world more violent and oppressive than any movie storyline. Sad, but true.

You don't need Die Hard--just look at the news and wait for the next weekly shooting.

I remember growing up looking at the news of the Columbine school shooting. I remember how shocking it was. I remember how unheard of such a mass shooting was. Now every week is like a Columbine shooting. There were 23--23 school shootings this year alone...and we're only just now coming upon the halfway point.

Oh, well.

reply

Dude, Hugo Weaving didn't want to sit through hours of makeup for what amounts to a cameo. I don't blame him.

reply

why couldn't Weaving have just done the voice?

reply

Cuz then they have to pay two actors.

reply

Why would he have to? I have a pretty good ear and I think Ross Marquand did a GREAT job mimicing him.

reply

Why bother? The actor they replaced him with did a good enough job--so good that I thought for a moment it was Hugo (I went in cold with no spoilers--not even being up to speed on all the cast).

While I despise Disney Star Wars, do you really think they couldn't (or wouldn't) replicate the Darth Vader voice when James Earl Jones eventually passes?

Red Skull was a one-time character getting a reprisal 7 years later and wears makeup--not a difficult role to recast.

Oh, and Red Skull in film isn't even a shadow of Darth Vader in terms of popularity and they have recast Vader more than once.

reply

Eh, to be fair, Vader is covered in armor. No one would know there are different actors under the costume unless specifically told. The voice is always the same, though.
