Another contrived minorities = good, white men = bad film

Nothing to see here just another woke film where all white men are evil and painted as violent and depraved as possible while the strong independent wamen and minorities are brave saints.

Yawn.

I don't know if aborigines were a minority in Australia at the time but of course you're right about the not very subtle message.
I wonder what would happen if somebody made a film about a saintly Caucasian martyred by evil blacks?

"I wonder what would happen if somebody made a film about a saintly Caucasian martyred by evil blacks?"

Total outrage, of course.

reply

That was pretty much the type of films Hollywood made for most of its history, since up until recently it was (and still is to a huge extent) dominated by white men. So don't act like that didn't already happen.

reply

Name examples please

Other than the first two Death Wish movies (and the perps weren't all black in the first film, one of them was Jeff Goldblum) which movies depicted blacks as completely evil (in the same vein as this film) and whites as the saintly heroes?

And evil then, the first two Death Wish films were demographically accurate to the kind of perps who committed such crimes in New York, so it wasn't unrealistic at all.

reply

But at least it was historically accurate.

Something tells me you're pissed that Trump lost.

reply

Trump didnt lose, the election was hacked and stolen.

reply

You wish it was. trump's stupid a** took 60 cases to court claiming voter fraud and lost ever damn one of them because when it boiled down to it, neither trump nor his crazy-ass lawyers had one single shred of proof to back any of their bull**** voter fraud claims up whatsoever. trump lost---face reality and get the hell over it

reply

no, there hasnt been an federal investigation yet like there was in 2016. Only the House of Representatives can start an investigation, but since Nancy is in charge, she wont start one. What we need is a Mueller Report 2.0. But the dems know fraud and collusion will be found so they dont want an investigation.

reply

Unfortunately for you and yours, there IS a "federal investigation" going on right now. When the results show that not only was there no fraud, Trump and his cronies KNEW there was no fraud, it'll be interesting to see how you try to spin those facts.

At this point, the only people who subscribe to the orange stupidity are either idiots, or completely venal. There is not a SHRED of proof of systemic fraud, but there is abundant evidence of criminality on the side of the proponents of this ridiculous screed.

These are not opinions. These are Facts.

LOL. I was thinking the same thing.

I want to say no, but.... upon further analysis, perhaps the sjw agenda might have been overstated in at least a few places.
Still.... The further back we go into our past, the more real sexism, racism was - the days of slavery, pillaging, genocide, etc. It wasn't all done by the whites though - Genghis Khan did shit you can't even imagine. I wonder when that film will come out -

I am as anti "woke" as they come and I didn't get that about this film. I feel it tried to be historically accurate and more or less succeeded. The general attitudes towards the aborigines were vile and depraved at the time.

The "strong independent wamen" acted like a clueless moron for the last act of the film, and was totally useless at battling men (which is/was accurate). A modern woke film would have turned her into a mary sue, rifling down every one in sight with dead accuracy. This did not happen. The film makes it clear she was lucky to survive.

There was also at least an attempt at balance in the film. It showed there were inhumanities done by both sides. It showed that not all the white people shared the same views.

Did some modern anachronisms and wokeness creep into this film here and there? Undoubtedly. But this was not your typical hollywood stuff, and for that reason I enjoyed the film.

To be fair, Claire made some really stupid mistakes, but she was also still traumatized as hell from all the fckd-up s*** that happened to her at the beginning, and still processing getting her actual revenge on the dude who did what he did to her child. It showed her as a human being with issues and flaws, just like everyone else, and how hard actually getting revenge on someone actually is. And she was strong and independent mainly because she was forced to be from day one by her life circumstances, in a place and time where women were thought to be inferior to men. She was also still clearly scared of that bastard who assaulted her more than once----I think it took her some time to process that she actually had some power over his sick, disgusting a** for a change. The ending was very moving, btw.

reply

This is what happened in real life though, but in real life during those times men from all races tended to be evil/violent/rapists when they had power and could get away with it.

reply

I believe that. You still have men who act like that now.

reply

White men have unnecessarily portrayed minorities as evil for decades while they portray themselves as saviors and brave saints. Get yourself a dose of it.

reply

True that, for certain.
