NEWS: Obi Wan & Boba Fett spin offs put on hold

It may be a while before we see any more movies like Solo: A Star Wars Story out of Lucasfilm. Sources with knowledge of the situation tell Collider that Lucasfilm has decided to put plans for more A Star Wars Story spinoff movies on hold, instead opting to focus their attention on Star Wars: Episode IX and what the next trilogy of Star Wars films will be after that film. Sources tell us that the previously rumored Obi-Wan movie was in active development, but those who were working on the film are no longer involved. It was recently reported that Logan filmmaker James Mangold was in early talks to write and direct the Boba Fett film, but that was before Solo’s release.

I knew Solos disastrous box office would impact the other movies (bar IX). maybe ObiWan might still happen in a couple of years? (to complete the 'SW Story' trilogy) as fans/general audiences seem pretty interested in the idea of Ewan coming back to SW, (plus itd have elements of force/jedi/lightsabres etc maybe even a Maul rematch) but Boba is dead for sure (too similar/too soon after Solo even though the Logan dude was directing - so get him to do ObiWan instead) same goes for any other spin off Yoda or whatever as they wont take any more chances now. but imagine the GoT dudes will probably do something like a Knights of the Old Republic prequel trilogy which those guys would seem quite suited to and fans seem to like the idea of (SW going full medieval fantasy)..as opposed to Rians SW:TNG trilogy which will be quietly forgotten..(seemed a dubious proposition months ago anyway in light of TLJ backlash)

Lucasfilm needs a ten year plan. The only prequel people want is Obi-Wan.

I agree. The Obi-Wan films have a lot of potential and they've got an excellent leading actor all ready to go. If Disney has realized that putting the SW brand on something won't necessarily mean a billion in profits, then they need to sort out the good ideas from the bad and this has the potential to be good.

Three films about Boba Fett, not do much. He ain't all that.

reply

I would be up for a KotOR movie, but not if they rewrite existing canon. There is a lot of really good material out there. Disney doesn't have to rewrite it like they did with the post-RotJ stuff.

reply

I guess Disney has noticed there is a problem finally. At least they may recognize it goes beyond a few upset “man babies” like some have tried to spin it. I wonder if Part 9 underperforms, makes less than TLJ or even worse less than R1, whether those other trilogies be put on hold as well.

reply

Yet another Kennedy mistake. Spin-offs cancelled but charging ahead with Rian’s trilogy tells me they are still in complete denial.

reply

WTF ??????????? Id scrap Rian Johnsons in an instant , who the feck would want to watch those after TLJ

reply

So no Kyle Katarn: A Star Wars Story or Quinlan Vos: A Star Wars Story then?

More's the pity.

reply

Hopefully Rose Tico: A Star Wars Story is exempt from this, I'm sure that'd be the one people would be most interested in.

Don't forget the spin-off: 'The Erotic Adventures of Pansexual Lando and Trans-R2D2'

It pretty amazing just how much out of touch Lucasfilm is with their fans.

Everyone and their dog wants to see an Obi-Wan prequel with Ewan McGregor. I don't know how that could be anymore clear. Even the people that despise the prequels still like McGregor's portrayal of Obi-Wan. So, it is mind-boggling how you can turn a blind eye to that and throw away all that money you would make, and instead double down on Rian Johnson, the man who broke not only the current trilogy, but also the fan base as well. It's like you're riding on a conveyor belt that is heading straight for a buzz saw and you refuse to get off.

reply

Yeah, I know few people who ever had a problem with McGregor as Obi Wan. If they actually knew how to execute it it would probably be an outstanding flick. In this the actor was bland and the execution clearly started off bad and then was rushed so they could make the summer release date.

Have a short review of this movie if anyone is interested- https://youtu.be/SVdMCNhBstI
