You know as fan, of the original three, it wasn't that bad.

I think it's a case of let's jump on something popular and moan about it.

I saw it on the small screen and to those who saw it on the big screen, were the de-aging scenes noticably bad looking? That's the only thing I think that would have been a major distraction.

reply

They looked fine on the big screen. Not perfect, but miles better than any other de-aging in other films.

It would have to be popular for that.

Please tell me this pile of shit wasn't popular.

You don't think the Indiana Jones franchise is popular?

Its popular with Gen X up to Millenials, but these groups are usually not going in such huge groups into the cinema to make huge bucks. Oppenheimer definitely benefit from the Barbenheimer hype to get Gen Z into the seats, but it also attracted a huge crowd of Gen X and Millenials. You have to make it an event to attract such groups. Tom Cruise is usually also good in doing so. I am still convinced that Mission Impossible mostly failed, because it released 1 week before Barbenheimer and the demographic group does not go twice to the cinema in a short time.
Indy had more the issue, that it failed in Marketing (the Cannes screening...) and the target democratic was teached well by Disney, that the movie will be in no time available at home. As they have Disney+ because of the kids, "no one" showed up.

The 380 million world wide is still good, so it still shows the movie can attract people. The issue of the movie is the 300 million budget, 100m should have been max, maybe 150 because of the extended 1944 scenes.

Sequel & Screenplay

Crystal Skull won for worst sequel in 2009 , can Dial avoid winning? I guess so with likes of Expendables4 & Exorcist

'I guess so with likes of Expendables4 & Exorcist'

Wow, I can see that being a close contest! 😂

reply

It was nominated for 9 Saturn Awards though so there's that. According to imdb though there are no Razzie nominations. Also as I have said before, the 2nd Rambo movie won 4 Razzies including worst actor and worst picture. So they are wrong sometimes.

reply

I kind of enjoyed this movie. Not as good as the original but worth a watch or two.

reply

No PWB nomination ? how the hell did she escape that? Most of the 'lame' of the movie was due to her character (and no doubt her interjecting stuff into the script like Bond)

reply

Worst Screenplay (for a major movie) is earned, the movie pacing is bad and the story also very staged. But no contestor with this competition.

reply

did this movie even have a "screenplay"? I always wondered how that works when they keep rewriting and reshooting a movie 100 times. there's so little out of the original pre-production screenplay left intact, how does that factor in award assessment and what not? or ownership and who gets paid? that's always been a big bowl of spaghetti for me.

reply

It felt like they had the early draft and some scenes, unfortunately no one told them to cut specific scenes so they were expensive filmed without giving any true benefit. Considering how bonkers the budget of the movie was, they should have cut the whole Tangier part as it could also easily been rewritten for them to directly go to find the sunken ship. Thus we had saved 20minutes time and likely 50m.
