Oh fuck off.

“In the film, Alex is the villain of the story, and Dan is the hero and there is no gray area,” Caplan told Entertainment Weekly in a recent preview piece. “Now, audiences have changed so much, we are no longer primed to believe in this villainous woman story. She’s clearly mentally ill and that’s not something that is really touched upon at all in the movie.”

“The series explores the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes towards strong women, personality disorders and coercive control.”

What a surprise (not). When will they ever learn? 🥱🥱🥱🥱

reply

Mental illness is common amongst both sexes, no societal movement will change this fact.

reply

TBF, Caplan has a point, and even the 1987 film was originally going to end on a more ambiguous note in which Alex was less of the monstrous harpy, and more a sad, tragic character who'd been messed about by a married man (in the original script she was going to commit suicide, rather than stalk his wife in his own home).

That said, isn't the de facto cultural assumption that men are innately bad, and women are generally sweet and innocent?

reply

"That said, isn't the de facto cultural assumption that men are innately bad, and women are generally sweet and innocent?"

Only when the man IS actually bad and the woman IS actually innocent. Nobody in this day thinks women are inherently sweet and innocent. Women are very much hated.

reply

The good thing is that no one cares about this remake. It will be forgotten soon and the original classic will live on.

reply

A classic? You're delusional. The movie has been sinking like a stone at the IMDB and less people take it seriously because of how stupid and over the top it is.

reply

Okay, maybe i was wrong. It's not much of a classic. That doesn't mean Hollyweird has to remake every movie ever made

reply

🤣

reply

The original was more from the "it's so bad that it's good" category.

reply

You're very intelligent from the looks of it, and a shining example of the idiots who love the original movie.

reply

If I recall correctly women LIKED the original because "It taught married men a lesson if they cheated on them"

Yeah ....audiences have changed, women are finding that men just don't want to get married anymore. I don't think this tv series will help guys change their mind.

reply

"women are finding that men just don't want to get married anymore."

🤣

reply

Men created marriage. There is no proof it was ever what women wanted. They never wanted to be controlled either.

reply

You're on drugs. Marriage is mainly for the security of the woman, especially from a legal standpoint.

reply

Uh no. lol

Women initiate divorce more often than men on average. About 70% more. Pretty sure that's a good indicator of how women feel about marriage these days.

It sucks for single guys. The women on dating sites are either seriously overweight or don't want to get married from my experience.

reply

Wow, you're utterly clueless aren't you. Women initiate divorce more often because the courts will favour them financially. They get married in the first place because of that financial safety net in the event of divorce.

Seriously, get a clue.

reply

Only 10% of wives get alimony and it is extremely hard to get, most applicants don't qualify. So that doesn't account for the vast amount of women who initiate divorce.

Get a clue.

reply

And guess what, nearly 98% of people receiving alimony are women. And that’s not even taking into account the splitting of assets.

This is a losing argument buddy, quit while you’re behind.

reply

What do you not understand about only %10 get alimony? %3 of that is men but I'm not even arguing, these are facts. Go ahead and try to argue with facts. I'm not invested enough in this to care, it's silly.

reply

I don't think you even understand what you're arguing anymore. Alimony is not the only way to benefit financially from a divorce. Either way it is lopsided in favour of women. 97% of alimony payments goes towards women. So your argument that women get divorced because they dislike marriage is absolute nonsense. They are more financially inclined to get divorced than men.

Take the L and run along.

reply

Women aren't getting a divorce because they dislike marriage? You are a straight up clown bro.

reply

This is like talking to a retarded neanderthal. Let me spell it out for you - if women weren't financially rewarded for filing for divorce, it wouldn't happen as often. Get it now? Retard.

reply

Did I need you to spell it out for me? No. You've said that over and over. The problem is not me misunderstanding your stupid point. The evidence isn't on your side no matter how many times you try to say it lol

I'm sorry that you are alone, so am I but I'm not going to lie to myself that the reason I'm alone is because it's women's fault and then make a bunch of stupid, nonsensical crap up about them.

reply

The evidence is all on my side which is why you've stopped arguing the point.

I'm sorry that you are alone, so am I but I'm not going to lie to myself that the reason I'm alone is because it's women's fault and then make a bunch of stupid, nonsensical crap up about them.

Eh? Lol I don't even know what you're talking about now. I'm not alone, i've been in a serious relationship for almost 2 years now. I'm not hating on women, i'm just stating facts. Women are generally rewarded for filing for divorce.

reply

What evidence? You haven't given ANY.

If you are just stating facts and aren't hating on women please present evidence for your facts.

reply

If you want to play deaf, dumb and blind, that's on you. Irrefutable evidence has been provided that women are significantly more likely to be in a better position financially post divorce vs. men. This is probably why you don't do well with women, because you can't even accept basic truths.

reply

You keep trying to change what you've stated lol

You've never provided proof for ANY of it either. I feel embarrassed on your behalf.

reply

My point has been consistent throughout. I feel like you're on drugs at this point, yammering complete nonsense.

reply

So, you don't have a problem with women, you just think that the reason they divorce is not because dislike marriage but because they financially benefit?

You definitely have a problem with women.

reply

I'm saying they are more likely to file for divorce than stick the marriage through if there is a financial incentive. If it was the other way round and the courts favoured men financially you'd see a spike in the rate of men filing for divorce. Wow, this is like trying to teach a monkey algebra.

reply

Yeah, that's not what you said but okay.

reply

Lol you're like a child. Embarrassing.

reply

Women did like the original and YES, in hindsight, it did teach this man a lesson to keep his dick in his pants and on top of it, why he would cheat on the already beautiful wife he's married to is just perplexing??

reply

All of the Pew Research says that it's women that don't want to get married anymore.

reply

Actually, Glenn Close did a fine job portraying the character of Alex as a fragile and complex tragic figure, and not just a one-dimensional villain. Surely, the original movie promotes a conservative agenda, reflecting the 80s paranoia and guilt over extramarital affairs, which followed the sexual revolution of the 60s and 70s, but overall it is such an over-the-top film that eventually becomes fun and entertaining to watch.

reply
