Which ending was worst? The original or New Blood?

My vote is still for the original since it was such a sloppy ending and led up with a super boring season.

New Blood's ending was still shit though.

reply

The original one is amazing. The show ended because Dexter stopped being Dexter and changed the name, simple. That's why I liked it.

On other hand, New Blood ending is trash. Felt so rushed, terrible writing and direction.

reply

My vote is still for the original series ending. THIS one, while lackluster & ultimately predictable, was nowhere near as bad.

Still, even the original series ending wasn't the worst series finale ever. THAT dis-honor goes to House Of Cards.(The US version) Should have never been made. Period.

reply

New Blood for sure, it was rushed and made no sense, there was no evidence to convict him as The Bay Harbor Butcher, and Dexter killed Logan and escaped for nothing, had he stayed in jail he would've gotten off for sure and been free. Dexter himself should've known their wasn't enough evidence to put him away, they had no proof at all other than 2 needle marks on 2 drug dealers necks.

They couldn't even pin Matt's murder on him, he explained it perfectly Kurt trying to frame him, plus with the discovery of all the bodies in Kurt's bunker it makes Dexter look even more innocent. Dexter having all those years on homicide should've known nothing they threw at him would've stuck.

At least the original series ending was bleak and ended with Dexter living in some kind of purgatory, no Harry, no Deb just him forever living alone with nothing but his thoughts of everything he caused, in pure hell alone until he dies. Was a more unique ending than just having him getting predictably shot in the heart by Harrison.

reply

Oh for crying out loud. Did you actually watch the episodes? She had everything she needed on Dexter - they showed it. Plus Batista was coming with a whole file full. The ending was perfect and the only possible result.

reply

She had nothing, she had some similar needle marks on two drug dealers necks, and a hunch, they had no real proof Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher, they had no prints, no body to tie him to, couldn't prove that was him in the heat sensor video, couldn't proof he killed Matt.

Please tell me what real proof she had that was gonna get him the death penalty and clearly tell a jury he was The Bay Harbor Butcher? What she she had would never convince a jury Doakes was innocent and this guy is clearly the Bay Harbor Butcher. It was all her word against his.

reply

Well she did have him injecting the one drug dealer with ketamine. That’s a crime that would have a couple years against him. The chances of him getting convicted based on a known drug dealers word? Ehh

What really doesn’t make sense to me is, how do the leg screws end up in Kurt’s possession if they were in Matt’s body when Dexter burned it. If they were exterior screws that held the leg in place as it healed, there’s be no point in the whole “titanium doesn’t melt”

reply

The more you think about it, the less sense the finale makes. It's like they knew how they wanted to end it, but didn't know how to get from point A to Z all the way with it making sense so they just started rushing it before production ended.

reply

In the end, I prefer it to the first ending. I wasn’t sure if they were going to have another season so I was expecting it be left open ended. Kurt wasn’t a satisfying villain. There wasn’t any mystery. The billionaire was quickly written off. They should’ve shown the scenes where he was doing the taxidermy on the women to show how twisted he really was.

It feels like they watched Breaking Bad’s finale and tried to recreate it. The Anti-hero becomes the full fledged monster he claimed not to be and his only redemption is to be killed by his protege. Even the final shot of Dexter and Walt bleeding out are similar.

reply

In real life, the drug dealer would probably not testify unless he got an offer of immunity. And, I doubt he would get that offer since he has little credibility anyway. And I think the officer knew that.

Before Logan’s death, the only case they could pin on him was an A&B on that drug dealer since they could convict with Logan’s testimony.

reply

She admitted she could not get him on Matt.

The whole Bay Harbor Butcher thing was ridiculous.

reply

i haven't seen "new blood" yet, but it's hilarious that the final episode currently has a 4.6 rating on imdb - the exact same rating as the final episode of the original dexter series! does this mean we're getting another dexter season? i believe they have to make dexter seasons until they finally manage to make an ending that pleases the fans lol

reply

Well considering he's dead now the only way to bring him back would be him be Harrison's dark passenger which would make no fucking sense, or it's revealed he didn't really die which would also be stupid.

Unless they just wanted to do another season and act like New Blood never happened.

reply

Dexter has near-death experience.

"Wait! He's still breathing!" Blurry EMT faces come into view.

Dexter VO: "Well that was weird."

reply

I've got it! They can have Pam Ewing in the shower and make it all her dream! That's what they did on Dallas when they really screwed up and killed off Bobby. LOL!

reply

I think Dexter fans are pretty divided. Some want to see him caught or killed. Some root for him. Others are something in between. There's no ending that will satisfy the majority of this fanbase.

reply

I think most are fine with him dying, its the terrible writing that led up to him dying they have issues with. Its not like fans are mad about him dying cause they wanted to see him arrested or whatever, they're mad about the bad writing and Dexter not acting like Dexter.

They're mad about a small town sheriff just on a whim without any proof catching Dexter and solving the biggest case in Miami metro history when she couldn't even figure out the missing girls case for over 12 years, they're mad Batista was wasted and we never got a scene between him and Dexter.

Saying fans are upset cause they wanted a different ending for Dexter like Getting arrested, having him live etc, is not true, again its the terrible writing fans are upset over.

reply

There's literally people on this board saying they wanted him arrested.

reply

The two people on this board who wanted him arrested are the minority, go on youtube, go anywhere else its nothing but people talking about the terrible writing, not that they wanted a different outcome for Dexter.

And the ones not complaining about the writing and wanted him arrested wasn't paying enough attention to how bad the writing was. Cause if you guys think him dying was the issue you're sadly mistaken.

reply

The old, "they don't count" argument, eh?

reply

They count theres just not as many of them mad about that as they are about the bad writing.

Dexter not acting like Dexter, Angela arresting Dexter despite having zero evidence on him, Dexter killing an innocent when he clearly would've gotten off had he waited it out, Harrison thinking killing his father would make him a good person and Dexter not caring that making his son kill him will fuck him up even more. Teasing a Batista and Dexter reunion and not delivering, i mean i could go on and on.

The last thing anyone should be mad about is they wanted him arrested instead of dying. I mean i could care less, dying, being arrested, as long as the writing was good and made sense.

reply

I think you are taking your opinion - some of which I agree with - and just assuming most people felt that way.

reply

I always thought it should end with him in prison. Then Dexter pulls a whole Rorschach from Watchmen. He’s not stuck in there with them. They’re stuck in there with him. He kills several people and end up expediting his execution.

reply

There's no way he'd be in gen pop, for starters.

If you wanted him to die, why is getting killed no bueno, but executed is? I don't get this mindset at all.

I don't think there's any one ending that would satisfy most people. The fanbase is so divided over what they wanted to see happen, this

reply

What specifically did you (or people in general) hate about the ending? Because all people talk about is "LuMBerJaCk DexTer" and when discussing the ending.

I was not a fan of Deb dying, but the Lumberjack stuff didn't bother me. Dexter isolated himself because he thought that's what he deserved. He felt bad about Deb, Rita, and everything that happened because of him; whether directly or indirectly related. Season 8 wasn't great, but that part of the ending didn't bother me.

Driving Deb out to the ocean? Wasn't huge on that. Kinda cheesy.

I have defended Dexter a lot over the years. I like the premise of the show and what he does. I don't have a problem with him killing killers. But there's been times over the years where I have started to turn on him. Killing Logan made me completely turn on him. It was unacceptable and he needed to be put down.

I didn't mind this ending, but I don't know how I am supposed to feel about him or this show anymore. Who am i supposed to like or cheer for or root against?

reply

This one. Because they came back to do it justice and this is what they do.

reply

Fucking took the words out of my mouth.
Trash finale, trash writers.

reply

The original's was way worse. I prefer this one and I don't think it's that terrible, as long as there are no more spinoffs.
