Have they completely lost their f****** minds?

The Flash will "erase every movie Zack Snyder has done," pretty much serving as a reset for the DCEU. Apparently, both Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill will be officially done after this film, with Sasha Calle's Supergirl taking over for Superman, Michael Keaton serving as Batman, and Batgirl (Leslie Grace) set to inherit the mantle after her solo HBO Max feature.

Supergirl and Batgirl will replace Superman and Batman? Seriously?

reply

Girl POWA!! They will kick all those buffed strong men down and beat them up with ease. How can they be so strong you ask? Well obviously they transitioned, duh!

reply

I doubt anyone will go to watch those movies if this true

reply

Wouldn’t surprise me to be honest.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League almost seems cruel at this point seeing as it sets up a sequel which Warner Bros. looks to have zero intention of making.

I predict they’ll make a new cinematic universe with Matt Reeves’ The Batman as a jumping off point and they’ll introduce a new Superman and Wonder Woman in that universe.

At least that’s what I hope they do as the current DCEU holds very little interest for me at the moment, at least for me to go and watch those films in the cinema.

reply

I think it's hilarious. The Flash was endlessly messing up ongoing storylines in the comics. This is right in line with adapting the source material. If we can't get an actual end to Snyder's saga, then let's go with the blip, sorry your universe got erased angle.

DC is fracturing into multiple universes. We're still gonna have whatever this Twilight Batman is. And we got JarJar's Superman thing to contend with. And now this. It is such a huge mess! But Clark Kent Superman? Apparently retired permanently.

reply

So wait a second, does this mean they're not rebooting Superman with J.J. Abrams? Or is that a separate continuity like the Robert Pattinson Batman film?

reply

I find it best for my peace of mind to just ignore all DCEU related news. lol And just wait for the confirmed releases.

reply

Perhaps, but I can't believe that WB think they're restoring any goodwill with all the confusion.

reply

It's possible that J.J. Superman will never materialize. I mean, the story of Superman hasn't been relevant since Christopher Reeve era. All the attempts to bring it back has failed.

Superman has no depth. He's super. And man. And that's it. Trying to add backtories and personality into the character is not gonna work (unlike Batman.) People don't even care if he's an alien. Snyder tried to add a glimpse of Krypton planet in Man of Stell but it didn't work. Nobody cares about Krypton. Superman is just super. And man.

It has been done back when they tried to forward the story by killing Superman and make him return into 4 Supermen (or 5?) I thought it was a great idea at the time. Finally! We have a real lore for the Super-verse. Turned out, it didn't work. And it won't ever work.

But I also don't think replacing Superman with Supergirl will be any better. Supergirl is simply Superman, but instead of man, it's girl. How does that supposed to expand any of the characters and story?

I just hope they simply make Injustice into movies. Making Superman into the villain is at least will shatter expectations (remember how everyone was hyped about Batman vs Superman? Only to be ruined by silly Doomsday) and also be competitive to what the MCU has done.

Superman as the villain is the only chance to get relatively even with the MCU. Everyone knew Steppenwolfe was not gonna cut it. That was stupid. Bringing out Darkseid now is already too little too late. Thanos' ship has already sailed.

reply

I disagree about Superman lacking depth. I love the idea of an 'Into the Super-verse' movie. The problem with the movies is that most of them keep trying to recapture the nostalgia of the Reeves movies.

reply

Hmm... Into the Super-verse! Interesting.

I just realised Superman lore already had it first. It's Bizarro. Somehow that character connects to the audience. People don't remember the 4 Supermen after the death of Superman, but we all remember Bizarro.

Technically it's from Superboy, doesn't matter... Superboy is Superman anyway.

I get the feeling that the DC characters work best on their own little islands. Batman is great, but only when he's a street-level detective/superhero fighting crime with his fists and some gadgets. Once he's racing around in the Bat-mobile fighting aliens and super-powered villains, it becomes ridiculous. Pairing him with Superman and Wonder Woman is always ludicrous.

Superman can be fantastic in a film, but only when the focus is on the Clark Kent/Superman dichotomy, and when Superman represents what man aspires to be. He can handle a battle with a super-powered enemy, but works just as well when facing something manmade. It's just when he and Batman are on the screen together that it becomes jarring. One only works in our world, and one only works in a fantasy world.

reply

I don't think it's that jarring. Batman himself fights monsters and fantastical beings same as Superman.

reply

Maybe in the comic books, but most people don't read those, and what happens in comics doesn't always translate well to the big screen. In a cinematic format, Batman only seems to succeed when he stays grounded in reality. Once you introduce magical elements, he becomes a fish out of water.

Pfft, when sarcasm is lost to people ...

reply

Yes, Hollyweird has completely lost their minds. It's been obvious since around 2015.

reply

I’m getting sick of “universes”. Lol.

reply

I guess I'll start reading books and comic books again.... OLD ones. They have all these weird quotas in order to comply with diversity, equity and inclusion. In order to be eligible for an Oscar, a production has to meet the various criteria. I still think GO WOKE, GO BROKE applies since they are not looking to produce the best stories. They are trying to produce the most diverse stories.
