Anybody else watch this whole movie.....

thinking it was set in the present day?

reply

I watched it without assuming the time it took place, but when the scenes involving the far off gun battles on the main island I quickly associated it with the Irish Civil War, and since this was a reclusive, rural, island farm setting rhe clothing attire helped nail down the time period.

Perhaps I'm biased because I've traveled all over Ireland and Northern Ireland a while back and saw a lot of modern amenities like telephone lines, cars, and street lights even in the most remote areas.

I thought the clothing and hair etc all seemed very modern, but I knew it was set in the 1920s before going in.

reply

No, but I did wonder if people said "judgy" back then.

reply

Right? 🤣🤣

reply

Yes.

reply

At the beginning I was thinking that it was set in our modern times, yes. But not later on when I was watching the rest of the movie.

reply

No cell phones, no present day.

Judging by the clothes and lack of late 20th century technology I thought it was probably set in the 1920s or 1930s. Then when I saw the calendar that said "1923" I thought it was set in 1923. It was a subtle signal, but I got it.

Ireland still has those little cottages but a lot aren’t lived in. You are more likely to see a bigger house built in the last 20 years built behind them on the same plot of land.
