Which era of the show did you like best?

The early Chuck Lorre era, the middle Steven Molaro era or the late Steve Holland era?

reply

The first 4 or 5 seasons was the best. The rest is just garbage.

Bernadette turned into a monster in the later episodes.

MY FATHER IS A MASSIVE FAN...HE SAYS IT GETS BETTER AS IT GOES ON...HE ALSO SAYS THEY ENDED ON TOP AND COULD HAVE GONE FOR MANY MORE SEASONS...I ENJOYED IT A LOT WHEN IT CAME OUT...I LIKED HE FIRST 7 OR 8 SEASONS...I HONESTLY NEVER FINISHED IT THOUGH...MY FATHER TOLD ME THAT SHELDON REMINDS HIM OF ME A LOT AND NOW WHEN I WATCH THE SHOW I FIND IT KIND OF UNCOMFORTABLE.

"Sheldon reminds him of me a lot "....Jesus ..πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

IT IS TRUTH.

I don't think so, Tim πŸ˜‰

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED.

Not sure whose era is whose, but I watched up through season 6 and quit. Like Happy Days, it sort of lost it's direction.

Now in reruns, I will only watch seasons 1-4.

reply

Happy Days got ridiculous at times. The gang was a fabulous band an episode or two then never again. Then suddenly they were a championship caliber basketball team, then never again touched a ball.
Of course there was the disappearance of Chuck which was never reported to the police πŸ˜‰

Season 3 was the best for me.

I think the first half of the series was great. I still like the rest of the series, but found the earlier parts much more funny. Maybe it went on for a little too long, but I enjoyed it.

The first three seasons had SO MANY hilarious episodes. They were classics. Four and five had a lot of good episodes too. After the guys all had steady girls and wives , I did not care for the Penny/Bernie/Amy scenes in Penny's apartment. That wasn't why I watched the show. The women were always, to me, supporting characters.
And it just made no sense that Penny would be "besties" with Amy. Sure, Amy wanted a cool girlfriend. But in the first few seasons we saw glimpses of the type of friends Penny had. Amy and Bernie just weren't her type. The only thing Penny had in common with them was their men.

Marriage and fatherhood just ruined Howard as a comedic character. The show's creators even termed him "Pepe la Pew". Well Pepe NEVER gets the girl! That's what makes him so funny. I can understand someone growing and maturing. But when someone like Howard grows, he's no longer as funny. At least I didn't think so.

It would've been overkill. But if they wanted to give Howard a girl, she should've been heard offscreen and never seen, like his mother. Or else he could've had a "mystery" girlfriend which none of the guys ever met. Just some of my own ideas. The WRITERS never bothered to ask ME!

But I have mixed feelings. After all those years, it made sense that they guys would mature and get married. But maturity and growing up meant that the characters lost what made them so funny in the first place. They were quirky misfits when the show began.

I shouldn't gripe too much. I do own the entire series. So I don't think it's that bad! The later seasons just were not as funny.

Really all good points.

I think it makes sense that Penny and Amy became good friends. Sure they would have never interacted if it wasn't for their SO's being friends, but that happens a lot in life. We hang out with with people because they happen to be our friend's spouse. However, I think they just needed a character for Sheldon and the fact that Penny and Amy were polar opposites just added to the humor.

Howard's character did take a major turn and wasn't nearly as funny in those later seasons. I did grow to like Bernadette as I find her to be hilarious so I guess that was the trade off.

reply

Well that IS another way to look at it. Penny and Amy were never going to become friends without their SO's being best friends. A lot of people do have "couple friends" and they all hang out together.

But for me, it just wasn't as funny seeing the women interact without the guys.

As for Penny, on the one hand, she did grow up a lot by getting serious with Leonard. But, on the other hand, she seemed so immersed in his life and his friends that she lost what was unique about her.

Remember when she used to go dancing with her friends? Or when everyone came over to watch the Nebraska game? Or all her friends at the Halloween party? When she and Leonard became a couple, most of Penny's life and friends fell by the wayside.

Of course I'm not asking for the impossible. The show couldn't write for a cast of thirty regulars! lol It's just that it would've been nice if it was at least hinted that Leonard sometimes went with Penny and HER friends and did things they enjoyed.

What I mean is that the guys could've been settling in to eat and have one of their movie marathons. Leonard and Penny walk in and he is obviously relieved that the football game didn't go into overtime. And why didn't her friend want to watch a Justice League marathon? He couldn't believe it when they said they didn't like movies about lawyers.

Penny- 'Well, they were just glad that you sat through half a football game before you started praying that it wouldn't go into overtime like the last time."

Really? I felt she came across as increasingly bitter and quite the ballbuster. Can’t say Howard deserved any better, though.

reply

The pre-Bernadette/Amy seasons were the best. The last two seasons were the worst. Bernadette was reduced to a shrew who just sat in bed and threw insults at her husband. I'm surprised Howard didn't strangle her.

reply

Pre-Amy was the best. I always wanted to see Sheldon with a non-nerdy girl. Of course, It wouldn't be realistic, but so what.... it's a sitcom!

reply

Sheldon + Penny, eh? Theoretically possible, but a tough road getting there. They'd drive one another crazy for a while.
