Why The Rock just can't seem to get his own iconic role?

All his roles are so generic and interchangeable. I don't even remember any of his character's names, not the Jumanji one, not the Fast & Furious one, not Rampage one, not the San Andreas one. They are all are just him, Dwayne Johnson.

The Scorpion King was maybe his most iconic role, and that's how many years ago? He got no T-800 or Rambo or Rocky or John McClain character that he can call his own.

He should be going down the Arnie route of bloody action films instead he's doing throwaway family friendly action and kid films.

With Arnie you can name all his classic films. I can't name one role or film that's been out right classic from The Rock. His films make money but they are largely forgettable.

Be cool, while not the lead, shows a very different side, as does central intelligence.

I thought this was going to be a hate post, but you're 100% right.

He’s an unbelievably bland and generic actor who only seems interested in making bland and generic family films. If he would man up and make some brutal R-rated action already, then maybe we’d all stop rolling our eyes and pay attention.

Youre telling me you dont remember Beck from the Rundown?? The fuck outta heeeeeeere!

reply

Okay, I stand corrected. People will definitely still be talking about Beck in fifty years.

You’re goddamned right they will! With a little thunder and lightning!

Hey Kansas City!

This is a big problem with a lot of action stars today. Many of them aren't playing the iconic roles that 80's stars were playing. Dwayne Johnson has no Rambo or Rocky, and neither does Jason Statham. I don't even know their character's names in the F&F movies.

He's a carefully managed product taking the safe route to big bucks movies. He has charisma, apparently a sense of humour, physical bulk and sufficient acting skills to sell the package. He's admittedly quite watchable and if he retired next week I suspect few would miss him.
But of course one of these days, years from now, he'll deliver a well crafted performance and everyone will exclaim, "he can act"!

reply

He isn't a good actor.
