That skinny girl is gonna be the Supergirl of this and all following movies?

she has even less flesh than Gal Gadot

No way she can fight Zod

No way she can fight Zod

Not only can she fight him, she will do so and defeat him - doing so with a solution which doesn't involve killing him.

And thus proving herself (if she is indeed identifying in such a manner) as vastly superior to the Superman we saw in Man of Steel...

reply

I'm not so sure. She's supposed to be more ruthless.

But the point about body mass vs. super strength is pointless. If Wonder Woman were built like Lucy Lawless or Gina Carano instead of Gal Gadot or Lynda Carter, she still couldn't lift a tank. And Henry Cavill is built like he could lift 3 or 400 pounds, not a five story building. It's super strength, and doesn't depend on musculature.

In the Flashpoint animated movie, Kal-El's muscles have atrophied from being held prisoner in a government lab, but he's still far stronger than anyone else on the planet.

reply

And how does Superman build such big muscles anyway? I don't get ripped from picking up a soda can, which is about how much effort Superman has to make to lift most things. Does he have a few supertankers full of lead at the Fortress of Solitude to use for his bench press?

reply

Yes, good points - That's why I've always thought you didn't need a Superman portrayed as any bulkier than Christopher Reeve.

But anyway, I wasn't chiming along with the OPs point there - but I do bet we'll see her defeat Zod in a more satisfying (to some), non lethal manner.

Regardless though, will it really matter? Isn't this film effectively an ending for the old DCU? Or are they going to use it to serve as a link and start some new universe stories?

reply

Yes, to reset the DCU for James Gunn.

WB executive James Gunn said that The Flash is “a movie [...] that resets the entire DC Universe.

Who Would Win a Battle Between Supergirl and General Zod?

Supergirl will defeat and kill Zod.

Christopher Reeve actually bulked up pretty well for the role.

He didn't get bodybuilder-sized or anything, but he bulked up to right around 220lbs, and was not scrawny -- I've also read the he got up to 232lbs for Superman III. He had been a beanpole when he was hired, but he trained under Dave Prowse and got some decent size on him.

The problem was the costume, being spandex, acts like a compression garment, and tends to flatten out curves and drape across dips or concavities in the body's contours, and this makes even a muscular person wearing a suit like that look slimmer. It's why they put fake muscle suits under superhero costumes today, even when the actor is someone like Henry Cavill, who got jacked:

And then, you'll notice, they even apply light shading over the highest parts of the muscles on the outer layer of the costume in order to further accentuate the muscularity.

Personally, I think that ends up working against them, because it looks pretty obviously like artificial shading rather than natural light and shadow.

He grabs black holes at their event horizons and bench presses them.

reply

Been saying this for YEARS, in response to all the muppets complaining about "skinny" super-beings. Thx for picking up the torch 😎 You are, of course, exactly right: Their strength is NOT because of how muscular they are. Diana = Magic, Superman = Yellow Sun Pseudo-Science. So saying Cavill is a better depiction than Routh (for example) is just silly. . .*Neither* guy has big enough muscles to bench-press a Buick.

Stop and think, people. It's not illegal, yet. . .

SPOILER ALERT

You were wrong. She tries to fight Zod, but is repeatedly killed, always easily. No matter how many times Flash goes back in time to give her another chance, she is incapable of holding her own against Zod.

reply

Ha!

However, if you think about it she did defeat him - from a certain point of view - with "a solution which doesn't involve killing him". By never, ever being able to beat Zod Barry is forced to go back and remove the entire timeline.

There General Zod is beaten without having his neck snapped 😂.

reply

That's one way to look at it, but repeatedly dying to the point where the other heroes give up on the timeline and bail to another one, leaving your timeline for dead is hardly a worthy victory.

reply

I was only joking 👍

reply

I realized that. My answer was meant as a tongue in cheek response.

reply

Yes, her and Bruce's deaths were inevitable, as was the destruction of that world. Zod was always going to win and terraform Earth into New Krypton, wiping out billions of human lives. It couldn't be halted, only prevented from ever happening in the first place.

Henry Cavill should’ve played Kara

reply

According to the novel, it is supposed be Superman, and the Batman from the alt-universe is supposed to be Bruce Wayne’s father (Thomas)…apparently; they changed several things from the novel.

They have muscle padding in her suit, Like Shazam

Supergirl is slim in the comics. Helen Slater wasn't exactly built like a tank. Neither is Melissa Benoist.

Does she have dark nipz?

I’m just Happy we gonna have a Latina supergirl
