The director's cut of this movie is the greatest historical epic ever made

You'll never convince me otherwise. Literally perfect. From a 6/10 theatrical cut to a 10/10.

i just finished it today. they made a mistake in not releasing the director's cut.

Do you think the Hospitaller character was an angel? Or God itself? Also the Sibylla character's motivations were completely cut from the OG version. Not sure what it is about Ridley Scott (Blade Runner), but these director cuts are amazing

I love it so much. It's really one of my all-time favorites. I would say it still has a few flaws but it really is a great movie.

reply

totally agree, such an incredible movie a masterpiece, as majestic as it gets.

reply

I remember watching this years ago, but I may have to give the director's cut a watch.

Thanks for the reminder.

Really? It's about as historically accurate as an MCU movie

reply

Do we really have to have this argument all the time? Historical accuracy, when concerning true life events or people, doesn't have anything to do with it. I understand, people get all out of joint at the term 'historical epic', but there's more to it than true life events. It's the location photography, it's the costumes, the dialogue all combining into believable 'of the time' characters and events. Whether or not certain exact people existed or did some specific 'thing' isn't the final word.

In fact, just off the top of my head I can't think of a 'historical' movie that is %100 accurate to real life events. That's not the job of Hollywood.

I suppose it depends on a subject.
I don't care when a romantic drama set in 18th century England has "modern undertones".
But something like Woman King which glorifies slavers is certainly needs to be discussed. As are the Crusades. Because they are a complex issue closely related to some major world problems today.

Ridley Scott was a weakling for bending to the studio to make more schillings. They wanted the schilling so bad they cut it down to allow for more showings.

Man, it's hard to argue against it. I wouldn't say it's the hands down winner without really putting some thought into it, but it is truly incredible how good the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is, compared to the theatrical release.

I would certainly say without hesitation it's the best director's cut ever made.

reply

Wow, really? I've only seen the theatrical version. Which I thought was pretty ok.

Never bothered with the director's cut cause I was kinda letdown by the film overall.

But I genuinely didn't know that the DC is THAT much of an improvement

reply

I know, as just a fan of movies, and without hyperbole, the DC is really that much better. It's long, but worth it. I think I watched it at least 10 times in a row after the first time I watched the DC.

reply

Will definitely check it out. The longer runtime doesn't really bother me as long as the film is good.

Like I rewatched Heat a while back (after a long ass time) and I didn't even realise the 3 hour runtime until the film was over. What a film.

reply

Well, I gave the theatrical release a 9, and the director's cut was an improvement.....

reply

Popped over here after reading an article mentioning how amazing the DC version of KOH was and this thread appears to confirm it. I’m definitely going to have to check it out.

For the record I liked the theatrical release and gave it a 8/10.

DC made it something special. Highly recommend.
