Mayim Bialik is the wrong choice for Jeopardy!: Either go with Nicole Byer or Marc Maron

Jeopardy! really needs a comedian as host, says Olivia Craighead. "You either need someone who has professional TV hosting experience (and a personality) or you need someone who’s dry and funny and whose main job is talking to people he might not always be that interested in. Byer or Maron could turn Jeopardy! back into what (Alex) Trebek made it — a rousing game that felt more like a sporting event than a bar trivia night where three sad, lonely people showed up."

reply

Maron of WTF fame?

Yeah the show is nowhere close to what it used to be.

reply

I thought that Ken Jennings was going to be the new host and she was going to host tournaments and other special episodes. I must have just dreamed it (not dreamed it like I actually wished for him to be the host).

reply

I think there was some kind of controversy with Jennings and they eliminated him from the host nomination.

reply

I haven't been watching at all but noticed Ken doing an episode 3/11/2022. Was it a rerun or did something change?

reply

She's not terrible, but I never realized how annoying her voice is. And is there a more frumpy woman under 80 on TV today?

I liked Mike Richards, and honestly, at this point I'd be thrilled with Aaron Rogers. Considering he had no experience, Rogers had a high ceiling.

reply

Mayim Bialik absolutely dreadful as the host.

reply

A lot of lame attempts of humor and inappropriate laughter.

reply

Aside from actually doing the bare minimum to have the show produced she is bringing nothing positive to the production.

reply

She sucks. Her voice and cadence unsatisfactory.

Jennings is OK, the best so far.

reply

Bialik has no wit, style, or appeal of any kind. Jennings is an amateur. It's impossible to believe they can't find someone with the combination of authority, suaveness, and humor Trebek brought to the show. Do such men (or women) no longer exist?

reply

Yes, that type does still exist but I don't think it's what the producers want anymore. I don't trust all the long winning streaks, and I see behaviors that would never have been accepted in Alex's time. For example, how Mattea adds words into her answers, instead of strictly saying "what is ______?" My husband and I also don't like when someone is on a streak for too long and takes opportunities away from so many other contestants. There had NEVER been as many streaks as there has been in the past year. It gets boring after a while to us, regardless of who the reigning champ is. I think some type of limit should be reinstated, whether it's 5 games or 10 games, whatever the producers would think is fair, as long as there is some type of cap.

It also seems they're trying to turn Jeopardy! into a cool type of show. It seems to be getting more and more about the contestants and their personalities/private lives rather than the show itself which has always been a cut above all other "game" shows. IMO the integrity of the show is going downhill very quickly. But, of course, this is all MHO.

reply

Your MHO happens to be correct.

And whoever is doing their FB page censors people! I was on there about an hour ago looking at the comments and I "liked" a couple of comments that were unfavorable to the guy who won the TOC last night (aka "Amy"). All of a sudden I couldn't post anymore reactions and now it seems I can't comment on the page either, which I usually don't do but if I wanted to, I can't! We live in Clown World 😡

The same types that are ruining the show are running and ruining the FB page. I still watch Jeopardy!, it remains our favorite show, but I don't know for how long.
