Who saw it in the theater?

I remember barely being able to wait to see this. Went on opening day. Profound disappointment.

i'd be disappointed too, way too woke. too many women in the movie, kubrick tried too hard to be diverse. im glad that libtard is dead.

reply

Yeah, we were very interested in seeing it and were also very disappointed. It wasn't very good. It was a lot to do about nothing.

reply

Do you think there are major elements of the movie missing? It just doesn't seem like there's a complete story.

reply

IMO Kubrick was trying to make a film that people would find soooo shocking and artsy but he tried too hard and it failed. Instead of a really good storyline, he emphasized the parties, the paranoia, etc. IMO it was complete, just not that good. It wasn't the worst movie I've seen, just very disappointing because it turned out to be a whole lot of nothing, as I previously said.

I was the opposite. I heard it was a bad movie at the time and only later did I find out this movie is a masterpiece. I can see why some would be disappointed with how the movie ended, it is admittedly an underwhelming/ambiguous ending but the journey is full of intrigue and suspense, I was riveted the whole way though.

Well I'm glad you liked it. It just goes to show how different people react to different things, including movies, of course. 🙂

I saw it in theaters. I still consider it a good film even if it isn't Kubrick's best.

I saw it in the theater when it was released and I loved it then. I watch it every Xmas season and love it even more now. This movie is an atmospheric masterpiece.

I didn’t, partly because of mixed reviews, but wish I had. It’s an incredible film - very gripping as a thriller but loaded with thematic subtext around marriage-infidelity-sex-jealousy. It has a Lynchian surreality, an intoxicating texture that calls me back every couple of years. I just hope they release a nice 4K disc of it soon.

reply

Ahahah, that is exactly my story.
I like it ok now, but in 99 my expectations were higher.
