Boy did this show go on way to long ..

This once superb show in its last few years became an absolutely cringe inducing sycophantically terrible show to watch !!!

And that final episode ... WOW ... truly awful !!! All gathered round the radio booth near the end as Frasier signs off ( new born and all ) ... My God , just terrible !

Martin marrying that woman that looked about 30 years younger than him and the final shot of Frasier yet again looking to be falling for a woman way out of his league and yet again also to young for him !

Honestly what was it with this show pairing up( Martin especially ) with woman way to young for them !

It really was pretty unbearable to watch the last few seasons !

It really was. I think it's one of the greatest sitcoms of all time.

You'd have to have 5 hands to count as many emmy's the show won.

I always find it interesting how critics like to sugarcoat the finale season.

Here's a junk article for example:

Season 10 and 9 were also terrible. 8 wasn't much better.

I know the show won a best comedy series in it's 5th season...it didn't deserve it.

1-4 are brilliant 5 was good 6-7 were okay....8 i'll forgive it. 9-11 complete junk.

Couldn't agree more !!

Worst pairing was Daphne and Donnie. What were they thinking? The show always had a knack for pairing people who did not belong together.

Have you seen tv lately? We're so lucky to have a show like this to bitch about.

reply

Might be going longer. Heard they were thinking of doing same thing they did to Wiil & Grace. Wonder how it will do? No Eddie, no Martin?

reply

I was pretty excited when they were talking about it, but this was a couple years ago. But Grammer said they had about a hundred scripts they were trying to get together. So it wasn't gonna be just a ten episode reunion season. Sounded like it was something they were gonna try to shoot all at once for syndication/streaming like Charlie Sheen did with his new show.

I missed the final ep, but I thought I read a review that said it ended with Frasier flying to Chicago? to start a new chapter of his life?

reply

Yep, chasing after Laura Linney's character for some reason. The last few seasons were basically about getting Frasier aid, and none of the women he got with were particularly good for him.

reply

Mehta. It was far better than the last season's of Scrubs. Its smutzy but that was common for shows at the time.

Totally disagree. The last 3 seasons are quite good. At some point Niles needed to either hook up with Daphne or move on with somebody else. They could not have him drooling over here and she could not just be this single woman in waiting.

Many don't like the show as much once they hook up but the show continued to be smartly written.

I thought the Felicity Huffman character introduced in season 10 made for some great tv. The first episode of season 11 when Frasier tells her to "get out" after she made a joke about his new hand towels was golden.

As for viewers the average in season 6 was 20 million per episode, season 9 about 17 million. About 14 million in season 10 and 11 million in season 11.

Seasons 5 and 6 are my favorites and I revisit those episodes often on Hulu.

That was a different 'era though.

The ratings and the nominations went down and down and down..

NBC moved the show into Seinfeld time slot at peak.

And it failed.

It was moved back to Tuesdays two years later.

Didn't the show finish at #30?

As for the Ronee and Martin relationship.

There was only a 10 year age difference between the 2 actors. Born in 1940 and 1950 respectively but John Mahoney was playing a character older than himself and you could argue the Ronee character was more youthful than the actress who played her. We are told from the beginning that Ronee baby sat for the 2 boys so there is some bridging of that gap.

I would say it is realistic because I'm 62 now and if I was single there are many women in their early 40s who would date me. It is not easy for a divorced woman in her 40s to find a man of her age. The problem is that Martin has that cane and that limp and is portraying a 70 year old by season 11. So that makes it less realistic.

Marsha Mason as "Sherry" was so much better than Wendie Malick.

Agree.
