Major goof that I am surprised no one making the movie noticed (Major spoiler)

First of all I love that movie, but something has always bugged me about it. During the Mexican standoff at the end of the film Harvey Keitel is pointing a gun at Lawrence Tierney who is pointing a gun at Tim Roth (who is on the ground, badly wounded with an empty gun). Chris Penn has a gun pointed at Harvey Keitel. Tierney shoots Roth causing Keitel to shoot Tierney causing Penn to shoot Keitel. Now I can understand Tierney dying while Keitel and Roth to be mortally wounded, but how in the world does Penn die? No one was pointing a gun at him and he was never shot. If you watch the scene he just falls down and dies. How did no one making the movie notice this?!

reply

Yes they noticed. The squib went off early on Chris Penns character but they decided to leave it as was. This became a massive talking point on the old imdb 'Who shot nice guy Eddie'.

reply

Interesting, thanks
I did not know this but will look for it next time I watch RD

reply

White got two shots off, White shot Eddie. Watch the scene again.

reply

Just did. He shoots Tierney and shoots a second time but nowhere near Penn.

reply

Within the context of the film that shot killed Eddie, whether there's a goof in the angle in which he was pointing his gun is irrelevant. Tarantino has confirmed this.

EDIT: I just watched the scene again, he clearly shot Eddie

It’s one of the big “mysteries” of the movie that people talk a lot about. As mentioned above, it was just a goof.

reply

I just watched it in slow motion and Keitel shoots Penn right after shooting Tierney. It is ridiculously quick.

reply

Yeah, I am seeing it now, I guess I just did not catch it. I still think he should of made more of a pivot toward Penn to make it more obvious.

"Yeah, I am seeing it now, I guess I just did not catch it. I still think he should of made more of a pivot toward Penn to make it more obvious. "

You should've used 'HAVE' instead of 'OF', when you wrote 'should of', so I guess you can't really complain about someone else's 'should have'..

reply

Good catch. Also good catch in replying to a thread that I already received at answer to three years ago. Maybe you “should have” not said anything.

But Nice Guy Eddie's, super glue dick story will live on....

reply

I always liked the theory that it was Mr Pink (off screen) who shot Eddie so he could spirit away with the diamonds with everyone else dead or mortally wounded.

But it was just a goof.

reply

Yeah, but even if he did it would all be for nothing, since he is either shot by the police and possibly dead or arrested judging by the sounds we hear.

reply

Yeah but he wouldn’t have known that until he got outside.
