As an adult, I love this movie. However, if I ever had children, I wouldn’t let them watch it until they were in their teens. It’s way too dark, violent and brooding. The juvenile delinquency is graphic in its own way. But the most disturbing thing about the movie is how much profanity there is. That’s a definite no-no in a kids film, IMO.

I watched it as a young kid and came out fine. It's not THAT dark or violent, and how much profanity was in it? I remember Raphael yelling "damn" once. I don't think there was much more than that.
He does say "Bitchin" towards the end of the movie.

shareI used to watch it all the time back when I was 11 years old, it's one movie I like better as an adult than as a child, as for TMNT II: The Secret Of The Ooze I actually liked that one better than the original growing up, sadly TMNT II hasn't aged nearly as well as the original.
shareI watched this movie all the time when I was little. Rewatched it again today, still holds up. It's a little dark, but nothing that kids can't handle. I was fine and I wasn't scared by anything. Yes, there's some swearing but it's only a few times.
