Who's the worst Bond?

Dalton, or Craig?

reply

Craig, Dalton is better than many Bonds.

reply

Dalton by far is my favorite Bond. He's the most like the character in the novels and actually puts a lot of depth into the character.

reply

Daniel Craig without the smallest doubt at all. He never was and he never will be Bond. He ist just a bland idiot without any charisma at all.

The problem with Craig isn't as much Craig as it's director Sam Mendes, whose films have always been so depressing and lifeless, in my opinion. After the revenge plot of "Quantum," they should have put Bond back into being fun again, and had Craig's edge tempered with some levity. But, of course, with Mendes aboard, that wasn't going to happen.

So, with it being so many years later, it's probably just too late. I think that Craig could have adjusted to a lighter way of doing Bond, but it's just probably a lost cause now with Danny Boyle being let go and more "development hell" on the way with another Bond film.

It's just too bad.

So far, I agree (though I don't know that Dalton is among the best -- I think the order from best to worst follows the order of actual appearances, Connery, Lazenby, Moore, and then Brosnan [sp?], Dalton, and I don't even consider the Craig films part of the series.)

I guess there's also the question of the first Casino Royale movie, which I've never considered part of the regular series either (though it's more entertaining than any of the Craig Bond movies).

Wow, a smart Bond fan. Not the usual "I like braindead idiots" Bond fans you meet most of the times today :) .

I would even dare to place Lazenby at first place! Yes, I know he wasnt an actor at all. But he had the incheek humour needed for playing Bond and, most important, he played Bond at the undoubtly best Bond movie ever. I know no Bond fan which doesnt place OHMMSS at the best Bond movie. Cause Bond movies could work as serious movies with an dark undertone. But that have to be realized by a production team which like the Bond franchise on the one side and amazing actors (Diana Rigg, Telly Savalas, Gabriele Ferzetti (the best "good bad" guy. Even better, but only by a small distance, then Pedro Armendariz in FRWL or Topol in FYEO)).

Casino Royale 2006 has an "Bond" "actor" whch was even worse then Woody Allen in Casino Royale 1967 :) . And the incredible dumb and boring story. I never felt asleep as often at Bond movies as at the Casino scenes. There was excitement, no prestige, no glory, no ntihng. Even Steven Seagal movies were more epic then this piece of .... .

And I indeed gt Casino Royale 1967 on BluRay. Every Bond fan should have all Bond movies (I know its not canon, but who gives a damn about the Universal logo at the beginning?). But I stopped buying "Bond" movies when Daniel Craig started. Thos movies arent Bond movies in any meaning. Thos are dirty and ultraviolent action movies with a script and actors both equally dumb. The antithesis to excitement or at least real seriousness.

OHMSS is definitely one of the best Bond movies. I'm partial to the first five Connery movies, but I find them more entertaining than anything else. OHMSS almost seems like it's on a different level--a more serious film and it has some of the best action sequences. I'll tolerate Moore Bond movies because that's who Bond was when I grew up. After that, they mostly put me to sleep.

On Her Majesty’s . . . is one of the films that’s most faithful to its source novel; and Lazenby, along with Connery and Dalton, was one of the few Bonds who I believed could actually handle himself in a fight. It’s in my library.

reply

Dalton was before Brosnan, just saying.

Myself, I don't rank Bond actors, just Bond movies. If I liked the Bond movie, I liked the Bond. And that, I'm afraid, means that all of the Brosnan movies go straight to the bottom. That isn't to say that I think Brosnan is a bad Bond actor, but because I have seen his films the fewest times (on account of me not liking them), then I also know the least about what he brought to the table, in portraying Bond. Brosnan struck me as trying to emulate Connery a bit, but I don't know. I won't say I like him least as Bond just because I like his movies the least.

reply

Yes, I'm aware Dalton is before Brosnan. I interrupted the flow of the sentence to indicate I was breaking the order at that point.

I am envious that you have not seen any of the Craig films. On the other hand, they provided excellent sleep inducers.

reply

Craig, I thought Dalton should have continued as Bond.

Craig without question. Dalton was pretty good and should have had a couple more films.

I hate that they're giving Craig another, even more so after he said he'd rather slash his wrists than play Bond again until they tossed 25 mill at him.

Being Bond 25 it should have been a reboot of the series, instead we've got to suffer through another one with Craig.

Funny how money will change one's convictions!

Woody Allen!

They're both two of the best Bonds. I'd say I like Dalton a bit more though....
