Evil Dead was a straight forward horror film, and a pretty good one, though a bit gory. I watched Evil Dead II expecting the same.

Man! Was I ever disappointed! This one was played strictly for laughs, and had more slapstick than a Keystone Kops movie. And Bruce Campbell was doing his best Jim Carrey imitation. What a disappointment!

I will view Army of Darkness next because it's the third flick in the trilogy, but I already know this one was played for laughs.

You and I must be in the minority thinking the original was superior. Army of Darkness was silly as well.

Campbell wasn't doing an impression of Jim Carrey, since Carrey wasn't really on the map at the time.

A better analogy would be that he was doing his best Matt Frewer impression. Because Jim Carrey totally stole his schtick.

I think it's funny you say Bruce Campbell was trying to be like Jim Carrey when Jim Carrey was an unknown person at the time. His first popular movies Dumb and Dumber and The Mask wouldn't come out for 7 years at the time Evil Dead 2 was released.

Bruce Campbell was doing his best Jim Carrey imitation. What a disappointment!

Cambell was big before Carrey, so Carrey has been imitating Campbell to hit it big.

I love Evild Dead 2 more than the original. It's a tighter flick and the tone is fun. The original tried some humor that didn't work so well.

not really. Evil dead 2 is still praised and referenced far more to this day.

Evil dead 1 is mostly just known as that movie that wasnt nearly as good as Evil dead 2. its literally iconic and still part of culture. Evil dead 1 is... largely dead...

From a technical, performance, and directorial standpoint Evil Dead 2 is a superior film to the original in every way and the frenzied editing are still being taught in film schools to this day
