Prime example of a film you have to watch as a kid

Annoying as hell trying to watch it as an adult with the kids yelling at the top of their lungs every 5 seconds

I must be a kid at heart. I still enjoy watching this movie.

same here !

But did you watch it for the first time as a kid? I think that makes a lot of difference as well.

reply

I love it but I feel its a bit long at close to 2 hours for what it is. I enjoyed it more as a kid but its still a really good movie. Just wish it was cut a little shorter.

reply

I agree. It was a little long in the tooth at almost 2 hrs. 15 minutes shaved off it would've helped, especially during the slower middle scenes. But still a great movie overall.

These days I enjoy watching the commentary with the cast from around '05 more than the actual film.

GREAT COMMENTARY...I BOUGHT THE DVD THE DAY IT RELEASED AT BEST BUY.

I feel this has aged poorly, out of the major 80s classics. Just as you said, it has a very specific juvenile tone that makes it feel like a kids movie more than ET, back to the future, karate kid, etc... It's not as enjoyable as an adult.

This movie was released when I was thirty-one, and I didn't see it until I was sixty-eight. I found the continuous chasing, fighting, and yelling quite tiresome. I think I might have liked it when I was eight to twelve years old.

I was 28 when I first saw this movie, when it was released. I loved the movie then and still do. You don't have to be a kid.

it is better when you are kid, yes.

however, a good story is a good story! no matter the age you are when you first see.

goonies has magical tone. i cannot describe. it capture something special like many film in 80s.

Very true that the yelling is annoying. But I have to say thst it has quite some macabre moments and adult humour for a kids movie.

I enjoyed the movie as a kid, but as an adult I'm mostly bothered by the annoying and pointless Chunk/Sloth storyline, the weird morals and some awful sentimental moments.
