What was the plan if Daniel didn't make it to the finals?

The deal Mr. Miyagi made was for Daniel to fight Johnny at the tournament. But if he didn’t make it to the finals that match would not have happened.

reply

I always wondered that too, but lets be honest in reality Cobra Kai would have kicked Danielson's ass and Mr Miyagi would not have survived against them either. There would never have been a treaty being reached in the Cobra Kai dojo.

reply

LOL!! So very true.. On that show "Cobra Kai", Danielson is pretty much the bad guy now isn't he and Johnny's been redeemed of sorts when it really did turn out Daniel Russo cheated after all of these years and Johnny had to live with that shit??

reply

And if Daniel didn't try to white knight for Ally, he never would have been on Cobra Kai's radar in the first place.

Yep and the referee just stood there, you can even see that he has a curious expression on his face when Daniel takes the stork position and lets it happen. That said, I am pretty sure the contestants aren't supposed to fuck up people's knees either.

reply

Johnny would have beat his ass in the car park.

reply

Miyagi explained that in the movie. The idea was for Daniel to show he could match them. If he didn't make it to the finale, he would at least have shown he could handle himself and hopefully the Kai would leave him alone.

reply

So so true. If Danny & Miyagi failed to show up then Johnny & the gang would just keep picking on him til the end of time.

reply

Exactly. Kreese wanted to match one of his Cobras against Daniel-San at his dojo, but agreed to Miyagi's request to do so at the tournament where it would be fairly reffed. As long as one of them had a shot at him during the tourney, the compromise was honored, and like you said, Daniel would have earned their respect win or lose.

reply

Kreese said it would be open season on him and Daniel, meaning they'd torture the kid.

reply

Kreese:

But I like that. No one touches the prima donna until the tournament.

Is that understood?

Yes, Sensei!

But if you don't show . . . then it's open season on him . . . and you.

The implication here is that if Daniel shows up and competes then he's in the clear. Kreese obviously thinks Danial will get beaten badly.

The only real question is . . . can Kreese be trusted?

reply

Sure, Kreese would have been fine if Daniel got beaten by one of the Cobras.

The only snafu might be if Daniel lost his preliminary matches and never faced a Cobra. Still, even if Daniel never faced a Cobra and lost early, Kreese might have been over the whole thing anyway. The only "insult" from Daniel was to ask to stop getting beaten up. Hardly an egregious insult.

I doubt he would have given much thought to Daniel going into the tournament.

reply

Kreese showed he couldn't be trusted when he directed Bobby to take Daniel out and incapacitate him rather than chance him winning.

reply

Kreese had to rely on the street smarts he acquired in Nam.

If you watch closely, it’s obvious even then, that Terry Silver was pulling the strings.

reply

Terry Silver was in this movie? I don't recall. What scene was he in?

reply

He was disguised as a bush in Miyagi's yard.

Never knew that. Thanks

Realistically Daniel versus Johnny should’ve been a first round match, not the final. Johnny was the defending champion, and Daniel was a newcomer. So a top seed and a bottom seed should’ve been paired up, and Daniel should’ve have had to advance all the way the final.

But of course it’s a movie, so Johnny needs to be waiting for him, like a final boss.

reply

Have Mr. Miyagi be his personal bodyguard.

reply

Or just go to the cops and report a premeditated assault.

reply

That area had no police because there was a karate dojo every half block, so there was never any crime around there.
