Was Mrs. Partridge one of the earliest examples of a MILF on a TV show or movie?

I know I’m going to burn in hell for this but often while watching Leave it to Beaver I find myself thinking that Mrs. Cleaver has a nice rack.

reply

She was a nice looking lady, I guess.

I think they were looking for the woman who fit the stereotype of a white, wholesome, suburban housewife as perfectly as possible when they did the casting.

reply

"Ward, I think you were a little hard on the Beaver last night."

reply

I always thought Shirley Jones outshined Susan Dey and the other young actresses who appeared on the show that were supposed to be real beauties.

Mister Kinkaid gave me morning wood.

Just a few who predated Mrs. Partridge:

Laura Petrie on "The Dick Van Dyke Show" (Mary Tyler Moore).
Morticia on "The Addams Family" (Carolyn Jones)
Lily on "The Munsters" (Yvonne De Carlo)
Margaret on "Father Knows Best" (Jane Wyatt)
Donna on "The Donna Reed Show" (Donna Reed)
Ruth on "Lassie" (June Lockhart)
Maureen on "Lost in Space" (June Lockhart)

Fast forward to the 80's, I bet a lot of guys crushed on Claire Huxtable. The actress was pretty. How about Betty Draper from Mad Men a few decades later? Which TV dads do fans of any decade find attractive?

reply

Dorothy Baxter (Whitney Blake) from "Hazel" was also you could argue, another early example of a MILF on a TV series. Basically, a presumably middle aged woman where you would seriously be blameless if you legitimately found her to be sexually attractive.

Anybody crush on goofy Peg Bundy?

reply

I was "aware" of Laura Petrie early on in life and she being an example of a very early MILF on television. On a more general line of thought many who did not get my attention while young certainly have it well into middle age. This would include Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke. Caroline from Little House on the Prairie.

Wasn't her character modelled after Carol Brady? I think she was meant as means to draw the same audience.

reply

I think she was modeled after Barbara Cowsill. I can see the similarities with Shirley and Carol, but Shirley seemed to be more hip.

I was looking at a video featuring a song they sang at the children's hospital in the 1st season, it was one with the skunk. Many male viewers were wowed by the sexy circus ringmaster outfit Shirley sported which highlighted her legs. I can imagine that was a highlight for many young men back then. It was a little racy for a family show. JMO!

The haircut was awful. Sideburns?

reply

She was sexy in an understated kind of way I think that was what really worked. She came across as a real mom.
