NFL is like slavery?

I saw him, with his giant comical hair-do, explaining how black players were examined prior to being hired by NFL teams, just like slaves. He actually showed modern players morphing into slaves in a 19th century slave market with an evil white slave auctioneer.

So, is it different for white players? If a white guy showed up asking to join an NFL team, wouldn't they have a close look at him to see if he was big enough, muscular enough, agile enough, etc.? Aren't all potential participants in any professional sport examined in some way to confirm that they have the proper physical characteristics to succeed? Or is it only black players?

Another thing that occurred to me was that, although I admit to not being an academic-level authority on the history of black slavery, I don't think that I ever read anywhere that slaves started out on minimum salaries of hundreds of thousands of dollars, with the really good slaves getting tens of millions. Or maybe it's the NFL I'm not familiar with. Does the league put black players in small tarpaper shacks and feed them swill, while pampering the white players?

Kaepernick is a racist moron.

reply

Reminds me of a line Tevye said in Fiddler on the Roof when told that money was the world's curse: "May the Lord strike me with it!! And may I never recover!!"

As a black American, I shouldn't joke about slavery, but Kaepernick is a total fool and any humor at his expense is deserved.

Your points are right on. Millions of young people of any color would sign up for this kind of "slavery". 19th century slavery wasn't voluntary unlike the NFL Slavery program and it certainly wasn't profitable for the slave like the NFL is.

And no, white players don't get a pass on physicals or agility drills or skills combines - they are trotted out and made to jump through hoops the same as other players.

He has no experience of actual racism (other than conflating his lifelong 'unlikability' as some perceived 'ism' of kinds) So of course he has to liken his own 'struggle' to that of historical atrocities, to add weight to his non-plight in life.

The only real injustice here, is that others are lapping his bullshit up?

The guy is dumb as a bag of hammers. His radicalized girl friend is behind his 2nd career of quasi-activist. She isn't much smarter but at least figured out how to wring money into their purse.

It is sad to me that there is money to be made by making race relations worse. If only there were people getting rich off of accentuating the improvements and highlighting what is good.

reply

Hey, white people also get paid for "making race relations worse", and they probably get paid a lot more than this idiot!

But what else can he do? The NFL won't touch him, he isn't being offered any good jobs in the real world, he might as well call himself an "activist" until something better comes along.

reply

I can't disagree with your assessment of his financial options. Too bad too because he could have been like my high school gym teacher. He was a professional player who retired and became an educator in his hometown. He was a cool guy.

reply

If C.K. would rather rant online than put up with a bunch of spoiled idiot kids, well, that's his preference, and for all I know he gets paid more for his activism than he'd make as a sports coach.

And he probably finds it a lot more enjoyable - everyone likes to complain about things they can't control!

Good call. That behavior is most of the stuff we see from celebrities and politicians. I don't mind people having a controversial or stupid opinion. Whether I entertain those opinions is my choice. What's funny is the fact that the supporters and haters just play into the celebrities ploy. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't be as relevant had it not been for people disagreeing with his so vehemently.

reply

I wonder if this guy has any supporters who take what he has to say seriously?

Obviously, he's got a lot of haters that don't, maybe they generate enough clicks to keep him employed writing rants.

reply

Jail this fool.

reply

Yes NFL is like slavery. But if slavery pays a minimum $750,000 salary, where can I sign up?

reply

5 years football will be gone, and soccer will be the main sport.
Between 2010 and 2021, the Hispanic/Latino population had the most growth increasing by 11.9 million from 50.7 million in 2010 to 62.6 million in 2021

reply

Latino doesn’t mean soccer fan. They are American born, growing up with American culture. They will grow up loving football, baseball basketball etc. Even if the population growth is solely through immigration, they love soccer everywhere in the world, the US has one of the highest immigration rates, and soccer still hasn’t grown here.

reply

Total fans: 1/2 of the planet or 3.5 billion people

reply

Unless half of the planet is the moving to the US, soccer isn’t going to overtake football in the US.

reply

I promise you that none of the people moving to the US right know turn on the tv to watch football.
