Hear about this guy a lot

But only have seen him Lady Bird where he played a mumbling blank faced teen. Ok, accurate but the kid who bagged my groceries could do the same. So why all the hype?

reply

Hollywood wants him to be a star but he will never be one

reply

Yeah they are looking for the new Leo but this guy seems too low key.

reply

Well it's a little premature to judge him if you have only seen his small role in Lady Bird. He has given highly acclaimed performances in several films and stage productions in recent years.

Whether he can carry a big budget Hollywood movie is yet to be seen... I guess there's a lot riding on Dune.

reply

I just learned today that he will be in Dune.

I don't really understand his appeal. He's not without talent but I don't find him particularly likable either, and I would think he's not masculine enough to be embraced my male moviegoers or even most female ones.

I will give him credit for his performance in The King, though. Best I've seen out of him so far.

reply

Haha I actually thought he was awful in The King, completely stiff and lacking in gravitas...

reply

I thought I would feel that way when I watched the trailer but was surprised when I watched the actual film.

reply

Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides !? Is this some kind of a joke ? Paul Atreides is one in a chain of selective breeding (nearing completion) by the Bene Gesserit to produce the Kwisatz Haderach. One look at Chalamet and they would have gone back to the drawing board. Why do these imbeciles torpedo their own productions before they even start !?

reply

Because he's a Jew?

reply

Because physically Chalamet is all wrong for the role. He looks like a strong wind would blow him over whereas Paul Atreides is a fighting man, a trained soldier.

reply

Strong wind would blow 55 years old Keanu Reeves also, but he could kill hundreds of professional assassins no problem in John Wick. As long as the movie logic is sound who portrayed the character doesn't matter. Let's just see how this Dune movie pans out first before writing it off for the cast.

reply

You can do what you like. I maintain that Timothee Chalamet is a wrong casting choice for Paul Atreides. Put it this way, do you think Chalamet would be a good choice to play Jason Bourne ? Because that is the degree of miscast he is for Paul Atreides.

reply

I'll give my judgement after I watch the movie. I'm even giving Pattinson the chance to prove himself as Batman. And he was a sparkling teen vampire.

reply

He could walk up to me...and I wouldn't have a clue.

Who is he again?

reply

I saw the hype and the pictures and was prepared to be dismissive (which was stupidly judgmental of me). But when he turned up in Little Women I though he was very good and not at all as I expected. Perhaps too soon to tell but I suspect he's more than a tweeny idol and may be around for a while.

reply

Seen more of his work since my op and am gaining respect for the guy. Impressed with his performance in Dune. Very introspective character but he played it well. Also thought he was one of the better hosts of SNL. Saw Little Women but didn’t like the whole film. I never liked the book or previous films much. He seemed just as good as Bale in that role. He seems a bit young to play Wonka but interested to see what he does with it.

reply

It's true.
