He was a Dutchie just like me. Way too soon.๐Ÿ˜”

I read his mom is or was if she has passed Indonesian, or maybe part Indonesian.

reply

His mother was Dutch-Indonesian and his father was Dutch. They were born in the Netherlands and lived here until 1962. He still spoke Dutch pretty well.

reply

Thanks for clearing that up. Back in the 90's, due to the fact I had 3 Dutch pen pals. I took a Dutch language course at a community college for fun. Dutch is not too hard to learn, at least not for me. Although I love learning new languages. In Chicago, we have a few Dutch restaurants.

reply

That's pretty cool you learned Dutch! Lol, I had no clue there were any Dutch restaurants in a city like Chicago. I wonder what they serve???

There are actually several videos of them speaking Dutch. They seem to fondly remember their childhood in the Netherlands and the reason they still spoke Dutch so well is because they regularly spoke Dutch with their mother.

Eddie and Valerie looked cute together, but I believe there were quite a few problems in their marriage with drugs and infidelity.

reply

Thanks I will check it out. Valerie talks about their problems in her memoir which came out years ago. There is a small diner a few blocks south of me that specializes in pancakes. We also have a few Indonesian and Dutch Indonesian eateries as well.

reply

I'm surprised there are actually Dutch Indonesian eateries there! They're extremely popular over here.

I wonder why they decided to call it quits after so many years together.

I thought this video was funny, because they talk about how they met Jan de Bont and none of them realized the other was Dutch.

Maybe on YouTube, there are some videos of him speaking his native tongue. He and Valerie were a cute couple.

I'm sorry to hear this. The guy was a great guitarist and song writer.

He was a huge innovator who influenced countless guitarists. His style radically changed the history of rock guitar and its impact can still be heard today.

He is probably best remembered for his blazing fast solos but he had a lot more to offer. One of my favorite Eddie pieces is the intro to this song:

RIP Eddie. Thank you for inspiring me to pick up the guitar and for all of the great music.
