The best female music artist from the 90s? Yes or No?

Well?

Well,JLP, her so-called first album, is really her third album. The songs were co-written by a man who produced the album and played guitar. Still a monster album, tho.

I would go with Fiona Apple, who didn't downplay collaborators and very much acknowledged them.

PJ Harvey streets ahead.

I'd put her in my top 10 for sure. Maybe top 5. I'd have to really think about it. If we were going angsty alternative rock, top 5 for sure.

No.

Has a valid argument for best album by a female, not sure about music artist for the whole decade though.

Sheryl Crow, then Jewel, then maybe Alanis

I hated the way that she sang, and she was pretty terrible at the harmonica, but I will admit that she was hugely popular, and a very big inspiration on most of the upcoming female vocalists of the time (about 50% of the female singers that I ran into at the time imitated her) However, to call her the best is an insult to all of the other female vocalists who were much more talented, could sing well, write intelligent lyrics, and play an instrument well. She definitely has earned her place in 1990s music history, but personally her place is not on my radio...
