Oh, this is who James Woods was ...

When Anderson Cooper was interviewing Kelly Ann Conway's lame attempt to explain and smooth over Orange Mr. T's firing of FBI Director James Comey and Cooper was so astounding with Conway's Silly Putty story that he expressed some emotion by rolling his eyes ... like 80 million other Americans were doing ... this is the James Woods that Tweeted "Cooper's butt plug had come loose".

I wondered why is this person, James Woods getting quoted who is he that anyone should care for his nasty comment? So I Googled the name. Now I recall, he was the guy who used to play the slimey low-lifes in movies because he looks so weird. You look at his face and he always appeared to have a few screws loose. So he must be clever to jockey that into a full-blown acting career ... well, maybe not so full, kind of a d-list celebrity with a gripe at the world for not recognizing his "greatness".

I am still wondering why his quote got so much attention ... in the supposedly leftist media, why would they quote a "homophobic" insult by a has-been actor? Maybe because this is all the Right has to offer, off-color jokes from d-list celebrities like Scott Baio and James Wood, and blatant lies from Kelly Ann Conway to attempt to distract us from the "real" facts.

Now I can go back to forgetting who James Woods was.

Far left SNL have made tons of "hilarious" homophobic jokes about Trump, but some retired actor's tweet is of course more interesting...

He is actually a great actor ( as evidenced in CASINO) but probably the fact that he has an abrasive personality has kept him from working as much as you'd expect.

I know he was very insecure in his youth. He has pockmarked skin. Apparently, he kept trying to date a neighbor of mine in the 1970's, and when she would decline, he kept saying, "IT'S BECAUSE I'M UGLY, ISN'T IT???"

(The thing was she just didn't feel attracted to him as a person...)

Okay...I know I'm replying to my own post...but this is kind of interesting and validating to me.

When I posted the above (about my neighbor fending off Mr. Woods in the late 70s and her observation that he was VERY insecure about his looks ("You won't go out with me because I'm so ugly!") I thought people would think, "Yeah, like you really know anything about James Woods...from your 'neighbor'..."

But in comments on a salon.com article about him, a salesgirl from the 80s said he grabbed her in a store dressing room and tried to force her hands down his pants. She writes:

-------------------------------------------------

<< Now maybe if it had been Brad Pitt or Mel Gibson I wouldn't have resisted so, but Woods' demeanor of severe insecurity was so intense, it was palpable, almost scary. He is so insecure about his looks and I could easily tell the only reason he thought he could get away with this was because he was famous >>

-------------------------------------------------

So apparently this really is part of him...!

And ironically James Woods played a gay man himself in 'Citizen Cohn.' He played Roy Cohn.

reply

That's not ironic, it's contradicting at most.

"And ironically James Woods played a gay man himself in 'Citizen Cohn.' He played Roy Cohn."

Your point? Many actors played Hitler, does it mean they support his cause?

reply

But the next thing you know Mel Gibson will be playing a Jew. That was the irony about him playing a part like that. A gay man dying of AIDS.

I don't care about his personal life but the way you belittle James Woods gives me the feeling that you don't know shit of what you are talking about. His appereance in Once Upon a Time in America will always be remembered by real movie lovers. Yes I actually thought that he stood strongly next to Robert De Niro.

reply

This is not his personal life dip, this is him ridiculing and belittling someone in public when he is a dirtbag. Anyone in the world can stand in front of a camera and "act".

reply

So.... Just stop caring about his personal life? Some of my favorite actors and directors are reportedly total dirtbags in real life. I don't care. I separate their bodies of work and their personal life and don't let them interfere in my judgment.

I will use an easy example with which most people will agree: Roman Polanski for instance is a disgusting human being. I would totally despise him as a person if I had to meet him. This been said, he is a highly gifted director and his movies are absolutely wonderful. The fact that he still has a job and famous actors working for him is the proof. If Uwe Boll would have done the same thing pretty sure he would never have been around a movie set again.

So okay... James Woods is an asshole but you clearly talked down about his screen presence. He is not among my favorite actors but he still has tallent.

reply

Sadly, he is possibly more well known in America today for his 20 year old appearance as Hades in Disney's misbegotten Non-Disney style "Hercules" (1997).

reply

You don't have any idea what you're talking about.

James Woods is based.

<< James Woods is based. >>

He's based, what...on a human being?

(He's now in the news for trying to bring two sixteen-year-old girls to Vegas when he was 52,)

Kelly Ann Conway didn't, to my knowledge, like.

reply

Oh good god, let it go!

reply

Woods was great in Cat's Eye!

reply

Wow, I totally forgot about that movie! It's been years since I've seen it, I don't recall that much of it, to be honest.

reply

It's a bona fide cult classic, worth seeing again.

Also in The Oinion Fields, Casino and John Carpenters Vampires.
