What was his last GREAT movie?

2008, he started his 'direct to video' career, and besides the Expendables movies, I don't know what there was of worth. There was a Die Hard movie too, but I'm not a big fan of that franchise.

Anything stand out for you?

Die Hard.

I'd change GREAT to GOOD, and even then it's slim pickings.

16 Blocks probably

He's never done a really great movie or TV. Mediocre mass-media smart-ass self-righteous white guy dealing violence out to the bad guys.

reply

Self righteous is him to a T.

He had many good movies throughout his career. But if you mean the latest GREAT movie, its as clear for Bruce Willis as it is for Arnold regarding Terminator 2. Its Die Hard 3. Later movies were good, nothing to complain, but Die Hard 3 was the last one in which the script enabled him to project his charisma on screen.

Controversial choice, but I'd say Glass.

Non controversial choice would be Looper.

16 Blocks was great. Also….Lucky Number Slevin.

IMHO it was Unbreakable in 2000 which I would rate a 8.5/10.

He was my favorite actor during the late 90s / early 00s, I would watch literally anything he was in because of movies like DIE HARD TRILOGY, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Pulp Fiction, The Sixth Sense, Armageddon, Death Becomes Her... I even liked Last Man Standing.

Everything else he did afterwards Unbreakable was 'just okay' at best... with some terrible ones in there.

Post-Unbreakable I did enjoy/found watchable the following even though many of them I would rate a 'failing' grade... on some of these he was not even the lead... I also may have attempted to watch other movies that I did not rate here during his post-Unbreakable era but those were really bad.

Bandits 4/10
Tears Of The Sun 6/10
Ocean's Twelve (It was only a cameo)
Hostage 5/10
Over The Hedge (voice) 6/10
Sin City 6/10
16 Blocks 6.5/10 (above average for this era)
Live Free Or Die Hard (disappointing Die Hard movie, even though I watched it twice in theaters) 6.5/10
Surrogates 6.5/10
Cop Out 4/10
The Expendables (it was only a cameo)
RED 5.5/10
The Expendables 2, 6.5/10 (supporting role, also above average for this era)
Looper (sucked)
A Good Day To Die Hard 4.5/10 (the worst one in the franchise)
Split (it was only a cameo)
Once Upon A Time In Venice 5/10
Death Wish 4/10
Glass 4.5/10

Will not even rate his VOD-era... I tried to watch a handful of those and couldn't finish none of them.

Planet Terror in "Grindhouse" was a ton of fun. I think he knew what the role was and his performance was in line with the type of movie being made.
