When is the last time that Bruce Willis tried?

What's the most recent movie that you can think of where it felt like Bruce Willis was there to act, not for the paycheck. (Or at least not JUST for the paycheck.)

Looper. Maybe Surrogates. Live Free or Die Hard to be safe.

Never saw Sin City 2. An argument might be made for glass.

reply

Surrogates? maybe i remember it wrong, but he was pretty tired there?

reply

Yeah it's a big Maybe.

didnt tey put tons of digital makeup on him?

reply

There was a few seconds in Looper where I felt that he cared.

He was solid in his brief appearance in Motherless Brooklyn. He's only in the film for ten minutes but it was nice seeing him in a real movie with ambition again.

I think it would be in this post-movie interview for Red 2:

He actually tried and succeeded in making himself an asshole. It's more than he's tried in the majority of his films in the last decade.

I honestly thought he did great in Glass. I was concerned that he and Samuel L Jackson would phone in their performances...but they both stayed true to their original characters from Unbreakable.

umm - his acting skills are on par with Keanu Reeves (that it to say - very little in terms of acting ability) - but I must admit, all of the work he did in the last 10 years looks like it was made via only one take, with him reading the lines, rather than having memorized them.

reply

I'd say he tried his current best on Glass.

Another vote for Motherless it was a great performance, it would have been a better film if it had more Bruce.
