Paul Newman later in life did. I see similarities with their careers because they are both 'pretty boys' and their acting chops get short changed.
Crusie is last man standing of the $20 mil a picture actors, this works against him. Creating envy, being less willing to work with other stars etc..
Unless he is willing to take a supporting role eventually, he will never become a Oscar winner.

I guess he's restricting himself with all the action roles but he's bound to star in more Oscar worthy roles in amongst them, as he has already with Magnolia and Jerry Maguire. And there'll come a point at which the Oscars will go "Hey this guy hasn't won an Oscar yet...time to honour him", as long as he keeps his profile up and keeps starring in movies.

I think he sees a shelf life about to expire on his action star resume and is focusing on that. I bet when he's in his sixties he will branch back out to more dramatic flicks that can cater to the Oscar crowd. He has plenty of time - the guy will probably work until he's 80.

He almost got there a few times. He was nominated for Born on the 4th of July, Jerry Maguire and Magnolia.
Will he ever make it? Unlikely, because he simply doesn't seem interested in making those kinds of movies anymore. One day though, possibly, he'll realize that he's gotten too old to be a credible action hero and he'll shift gears. Then he'll return to making dramas and perhaps will finally nab his Oscar.
