*beep* comment to deniro

Iam huge fan of his but he has no right critising any actor for their film choices. ecery actor has a flop now and then even crowe. he is not as good as robert. robert is good comedy while crowe ex cells drama but fails at comedy.

reply

Actually Crowe is a far better actor than that idiot DeNiro.

Hama cheez ba-Beer behtar meshawad!

reply

LMAO, Nooooo, Crowe never acted a day in his life, he's a statue,

reply

a glorious statue

reply

The Nice Guys is funnier than any comedy De Niro has ever been in.

reply

I can imagine Crowe playing a modern-day American gangster very effectively. It is impossible to imagine De Niro playing a Royal Navy ship's captain in the Napoleonic wars. Crowe is the better actor.

reply

Wow. I have to say, this is one of the most succinct and persuasive takes I’ve read on the blog. You are dead on right.

reply

I agree Crowe is more versatile. Can you imagine Bob De Niro playing:

A neo-nazi skinhead
A gay rugby player
Noah
Robin Hood
Several cowboys
A character with an Australian or British accent
A co-lead in a musical?

No disrespect to De Niro’s legacy but Crowe has it all over him in terms of versatility.

reply

I could also imagine without any problem whatsoever Crowe playing a russian or german submarine commander in a Red October or Das Boot remake, or even a starship commander in a Star Trek film. whereas De Niro (or Pacino) in either would be lolable

Crowe on other hand would be easy to imagine in any of De Niro type roles from a Godfather to any Scorsese gangster film

reply

Can't believe I'm saying this I thought about your comment and, yeah, I think Crowe is a better actor than DeNiro too. I could see Crowe crushing any of DeNiro's earlier work (Taxi Driver, Cape Fear, Raging Bull). However, I don't think I could see DeNiro doing Gladiator or Master and Commander.

DeNiro would have been great in L.A. Confidential and 3:10 to Yuma.

reply

I cannot imagine DeNiro playing anything other than an America of Italian descent and probably from New York. Which may be my lack of imagination or may be because that's what he always seems to be - and I can't really picture him in a Western either.
But perhaps we're missing a point here. He may have delivered a limited range in terms of character types but have much greater depth and subtlety portraying the characters he does play. Don't know how you weigh that and personally I prefer watching Crowe. But DeNiro has produced some great performances over the years.

reply

Some fantastic performances, no doubt about it. I don’t think anyone could argue that De Niro is a bad actor and expect to be taken seriously. He just doesn’t have Crowe’s range.

reply

That's what I'm saying. DeNiro is fantastic. Well, was. He hasn't really tried to break free into new territory. He showed some back in the day - The Mission, Cape Fear, maybe Ronin or Jackie Brown. I just think Crowe can play both a gangster and a 17th-century ship captain while Bobby couldn't.

robert isnt good at comedy he is the comedy. the dude is a joke and super overrated. the only time he made me laugh was when his brains got blown out during the joker movie. now that was comedy gold

Crowe has every right to criticize De Niro for his film choices; they are terrible. It has gotten to the point where De Niro stars in a bunch of movies and if you are lucky maybe one will be decent. In addition to his choice of roles, he mostly phones in his performances and clearly does not care. Crowe on the other hand usually gives it his all and for the most part picks good, but sometimes unconventional films. De Niro is mostly known for his juvenile political rants. He has become a joke and a very unfunny one at that.

reply

Russ is okay but I never saw him as enigmatic. His only memorable role is Maximus and that could have been played other actors like Paul Giamatti

reply

Umm... ever seen Romper Stomper? That's just one example of how memorable he is, I could name more, but I get a feeling this is more a matter of personal taste rather than a true assessment of his acting talent and versatility.

reply

I can't believe I'm reading these comments, comparing Russell Crowe to Robert DeNiro is like comparing Donald Trump to Jesus Christ, it's pure insanity. Crowe is expressionless, deadpan, lifeless, just terrible, and Robert DeNiro is one of, if not the best character actors of all time.

reply

Both are boring overrated actors anyway
