I don't mind him as an actor but his NRA stance makes it difficult for me to actually like the guy. He seemed to play the strong, silent type most often, which I guess could be said for Greg Peck as well. Peck looked a little more thoughtful (Mockingbird) and warm (On The Beach), but Chuck in Touch Of Evil was very good. I suspect it was a role a lot of people could have done as it was a fantastic film, but Heston had the lead so I won't try to take it away from him.

And yes, there are a lot of great actors from the Golden Age that don't get their due here. I suppose that's how the world works. Chris Pratt is more interesting than James Stewart (!?!) simple because he's active now.

Heston certainly chewed the scenery in "The Ten Commandments."
