Why don’t people who complain about black representation

in film just watch films from an African country? Watching Somali cinema is sure to get the FDA recommended dosage of black across across the screen.

reply

To be fair to them, has African cinema produced anything worth watching?
Also, maybe they want to watch American coloreds and not African savages.

As an anti-Woke, I personally don't have a problem with black cinema, American or otherwise, I just don't want diversity in individual films/shows. I don't like integration. I'm more for the separate but equal.

reply

Down in The SouthWest Bronx where I work somebody opened a movie rental store for African films. The West African/Muslim population is exploding in that area. They closed the store after a few months.

I think just about everyone prefers Hollywood movies. Even foreigners.

reply

Yeah, I also noticed that aside from the vocal woke minority, most people including racial and sexual minorities, like watching American movies about normal straight White people. To my surprise I've heard many of them complain about the same things I complain about — diversity, race swapping, inclusion, etc. They don't like it because they feel like they're being pandered to. Which they are.

reply

I enjoy French
and English thrillers and some of the Asian Kung Fu stuff is great fun but I usually watch American productions.

reply

I prefer American/English but I enjoy the occasional foreign film/show. Asian stuff is pretty good.
Did you watch that German show "Dark"? It's one of the best time travel stories I ever watched.

reply

No, I’ve never seen Dark but thanks for the suggestion. I’m going to finish Mayor Of Kingstown and then I’ll give it a shot👍

Thanks. I do enjoy foreign stuff quite a bit.

reply

Dark is amazing. It's going to hurt your brain, and you're going to be confused, but don't worry, by the end everything will make sense. You are in for a real treat.

And I love Mayor of Kingstown. I just watched the season 3 premiere yesterday. It's off to a good start.
It's nice to see Jeremy Renner up and walking around. It was pretty touch and go there for a while. He got into an altercation with a snowplow and the snowplow won. He got really fucked up.

reply

Yes! Happy to hear Renner is ok, what a nasty accident!

reply

I binged watched Dark a few months ago - excellent!

reply

I’m binging Mayor right now, halfway through S1 but Dark is on my list👍

Obviously there's a much more seasoned, developed industry in Hollywood. US soft power is utterly globally dominant. Most African countries are too impoverished, suffer brain drains, too conflict-ridden to develop much of a movie scene that can come close to competing with the US/UK/Europe.

reply

In other words these countries are lazy.

reply

Or in civil war. Or just too poor. Or both.

reply

"I think just about everyone prefers Hollywood movies. Even foreigners."

I agree but maybe not for the same reason as you think. I've actually watched some West African movies and tv series. There's a lot of bad acting in them, low budget as well.

Also, more importantly most of the plot of these movies and tv series are basically about the same thing. So West Africans are probably bored with it after seeing so many. You literally watch one is like watching most of them with just different actors and directors.

reply

"Also, maybe they want to watch American coloreds and not African savages."

Wow that was so rude. Are you proud of yourself for having posted that?

reply

Yes. Sometimes I have to choose between being polite and being a White supremacist. Here I chose White supremacy.

reply

😆 white supremacy is a joke, dude.

reply

Really?
The people who've built the best and most advanced civilization in history aren't supreme? The people who pretty much invented everything from philosophy, to calculus, to automobiles, to airplanes, to transistors, computers, cellphones, the internet....Those people aren't supreme?

What did blacks invent? Peanut butter and fried chicken? Sheeeiititt, not even that. Fried Chicken was invented by Hannah Glasse who was British.
wE wAs kAangs n' sheeeit? Nope, just low iq savages living in mud huts made of dung chucking spears at wild game on the African Savannah. Sheeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiit.

reply

Did you say the best and advanced? Just how old are you? China and Japan imports has dominated American Made products for decades now! They out perform us. Get a clue.

That's why I said that White Supremacy is a joke. The entire system exists to oppress other ethnicities. Imagine how much further the world could have gotten when EVERYONE is allowed to prosper and contribute without limitations.

reply

We prospered because we're better.

reply

The ultimate fallacy.

reply

You know… I think this thread is going to go well. I foresee no friction in the ensuing discourse.

Well... because ordinarily they're not complaining about representation on a global level (because that wouldn't make much sense given a moment's consideration) but they're questioning representation in terms of the demographics of their own nation.

Here is an example of African cinema. I watched this movie last year:
Who Killed Captain Alex? (2010)

Why don't people who complain about people who complain about black representation in films

just watch films from the 30s to the 60s ?

reply

Where on Honest to God's Green Earth do you come up with this shit?? Do you just lie there staring at the ceiling and it just comes to you or what?? 🤔

reply

On the original IMDb forums there was a Korean guy who always used to complain about the lack of representation of Korean people in film and TV and when they were represented he would complain they were stereotypes.

This thread made me think of that guy.

reply

There is no higher compliment.

reply

If only Hollywood movies were as diverse as Korean movies, the guy would have been satisfied.

reply

Lol yeah I have noticed that about Asian countries and movies.
