I planted a new garden.

I cleared out a firewood area and rototilled some Oak leaves into the soil with some cow shit. Four three gallon Lilacs trees and six yards of mulch.

It should be real pretty.

How is your garden growing?

reply

We're tilling this weekend. It's all veggies and we're looking forward to the canning season.

reply

I bought a Ryobi battery tiller a couple years ago, it’s pretty good for the veggie beds.
The batteries should be stored indoors, they can die out in the shed and they are ridiculously expensive!

Most Ryobis are fine tools. The hedge trimmer needs a good sharpening right out of the box though.

reply

We looked at some two weeks ago. Their batteries look like they're the same as my leaf blower.

reply

The 40Volt battery is about $125 to replace which is the cost of the tool you buy. I learned this the hard way. I store all of the batteries at room Temperature now, it’s a pain in the ass but you’ll save some money.

reply

Where were you storing them? The oven?

Signed, million man

reply

No, just in my tin shed.
Apparently strong changes in weather can really mess up your Lithium batteries!

I store mine inside now.

reply

I keep them in a bin in my office in the winter.

reply

I always keep mine inside right next to the charger.

reply

What is tilling?

reply

It's where you loosen the upper soil level so you can rake out the old growth and set up your garden plan.

Unfortunately it's raining so I'll have to wait till things dry up.

reply

Oh ok. I never knew there was a name for it 😄

reply

I haven't started growing weed yet.

Signed, million man

reply

DON’T put out cigs in the weed flower pots!

I almost burned down my family house during college, I was a goddam dummy!

reply

I would never.

reply

I made a lot of mistakes growing up, burning down the house would have been a really bad one!

I wrecked my stepmother’s car before I even had a driver’s license, I was a real dickhead kid!

reply

ME EITHER...I AM TOO STONED TO START.

reply

Do you still keep bunny rabbits?

reply

No, sadly they have all passed.
Rabbits only live for 6 or 7 years,

I have a mean little black dog now. She bites a lot but she’s tiny. We watch true crime shows together.

We are watching manhunters: fugitive task force on Tubi right now.

reply

Another good thing about winter: no need to maintain a garden.

reply

Sunlit gardens are a great joy in life you frosty Yeti!

A man that keeps fruitful and lovely gardens earns a thousand memories.

reply

That was stolen from a Hallmark card.

reply

No, I just make up poetic shit all the time.

reply

I've started some cucumber seeds inside. It's still too early to plant outside here. Mostly just be veggies this year.

reply

We have a frost warning tonight here in the Hudson Valley…WTH?!

reply

Usually don't plant anything outside until the may long weekend here (3rd weekend)

reply

This winter, mud and rain won’t quit!
I demand to be warm and dry dammit!!!

reply

I would run naked down the streets being chased by slow coyotes if it meant we could get some rain

reply

At the risk of sounding inappropriate that’s a very sexy visual😄

reply

I'm old. Probably not that great of a visual though.

reply

Your milkshake brings all the boys to the yard…whatever that means.

reply

Lol.

I did a bit of yard cleanup a couple of days ago. I wanted to get the leaves up that were covering the few plants I have before rain moved in. Yes, rain. It's been raining on and off all day today and we're supposed to get more overnight tonight and tomorrow night. Things are finally greening up after two years of drought. I don't think my front yard is going to come back, though. The past couple of years have been extremely tough on it. By early fall last year, the grass was so dry it had turned from brown to gray. But hey, the weeds survived! 🙄

The back yard did okay, but it's not in the hot sun all day long, either. Heck, I'll probably have to mow the back soon. Once the rain has passed for now, I'll be bringing out the patio furniture - after I clear all the twigs and branches off the patio. We've had quite a few very windy days here, so of course there is lots of tree debris that was blown out of the mature tree back there.

Oh, and of course the bugs are back like crazy.

reply

If you have a couple of industrious High School boys on your block they could take out, till and seed that front patch. Glad you’re getting some rain now.

I’ll fire up the mower soon, give the lawn a tidy sweep and snip.

And YES!
The little gnats are back in force.

reply

Oh. My. Stars! I despise the gnats! They just won't go away, no matter how many times you try to wave them away. The worse is when they get behind my sunglasses. Argh!

No high school boys on my block, but I can usually find someone on NextDoor when I need some help, either directly, or recommendations for someone.

The guys that built the Kingshed pub are currently building a smaller version for my daughter. Once it’s finished she can put her drum kit and guitars in there and also her computer games.

It will be where she can hang out with all her friends, so they can talk about girls stuff without daddy being in the way.

reply

Cute!
A little castle for the princess, very nice.

I built ‘Kid Kamp’ for my kids and the neighbors. It was just play mats and a large tent but the neighborhood kids loved it. Alas, they are all teens now and way to cool for the old clubhouse anymore😄

reply

It’ll end up looking similar to this (about 5m x 3m): -

I’ll post a pic when it’s done.

reply

Very nice.
Roomy!

reply

I just edited the size (above).

reply

She’ll probably want some flower boxes, she can learn to garden her own patch of the kingdom.

reply

I tore out some boxwoods that had blight. They had also become overgrown and were choking out my wisteria. There is also another bush in the same area that needs to be removed but just might cut it down for this year. Most of my flower beds are the way I want them.

reply

It’s always something with a large yard.
Cottontails are picking away at my Holly bushes. I may have to wrap the bushes in chicken wire but that’s going to look ugly.

Oh well, a big yard is a healthy distraction, keeps me out of trouble😁

reply

Is there such a thing as green chicken wire or something similar that wouldn't be so obvious?

reply

That’s worth looking into.
Or maybe just spray paint the usual stuff you find at the store.

reply

Right now the inside of my house is my priority for this year. I just tore my bathroom down to the studs and did a complete remodel.
It was one of those "what the hell did I get myself into" projects. Lots of water and old termite damage underneath the walls. It turned out beautiful, so I'm happy but I have box gutters in that part of the house that need to be relined - always something with old houses.

reply

Jeez, I feel your pain.
We redid two baths a few years ago and the contractor was here for weeks!
It was irksome to say the least.

reply

I didn't do it myself, but about 4 or so years ago, I had my bathroom re-done. I knew it was beyond my paygrade. It needed it because I knew water had gotten behind the tub wall, thanks to the DIY job the previous owners had done. Luckily, it only took about 3 days before it was usable again (I made a lot of visits to the neighbors' house back then, since I have only one bathroom). It had to be a gut job, but it's all good now - yes that wall was icky. The style doesn't fit the rest of the house, but it's what I could afford at the time - so be it. It's very functional and that's what I needed.

Congratulations to you for tackling yours! 🥂

reply

LOL - the only thing I did was to paint the walls and help with the tile in the shower. My son and (adult) grandson helped and did the demo,(which was a MESS), and I hired my son's ex-FIL who is retired and knows what he's doing for everything else except the shower tile, which my son and I did.. It was a part time project so it took about 10 weeks to complete.
