What is your favorite inexpensive comfort food?

My favorite comfort food is Hamburger Stroganoff.

Brown 1lb. Hamburger then drain the fat. Add 1 can of condensed cream of mushroom soup, 8oz. of sour cream and salt and pepper to taste. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes or until heated through. Serve over wide noodles.

My mom used to make that when I was a little kid and it's delicious!

What is your favorite?

During Winter: Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. So delicious, so warm and filling, so utterly comfortin!

During Summer: ICE CREAM.

reply

Mmmmmm... Ice cream! My favorite is mint chocolate chip.

Add a can of tuna or a half pound of cooked hamburger to the mac and cheese and you have a delicious meal.

reply

I don't have a favorite flavor of ice cream... for more than one serving! Okay, maybe a pint.

And everybody loves mac and cheese, straight out of the box or tarted up. Vegans weep when they remember the deliciousness of mac and cheese...

If you add tuna or hamburger meat to Mac N Cheese, also add a can of cream of mushroom to it. You won't be disappointed, I promise!

I've recently had some horrible experiences with Annie's macaroni and cheese varieties. I always see them in the clearance isle in the stores that I go to. So I started getting them. And they're organic, not that I really care about that. So the first one I tried a couple months ago was the Alfredo flavor macaroni and cheese. And the powder in the packet was a solid mass. I had to squeeze it with my hands in order to break it up. And it broke up into big chunks which I figured would dissolve once you mix it all together. But nope. Yesterday I had their regular flavor and again the powder in the packet was a solid mass in both boxes that I made yesterday. Again I squeeze the packets with my hands to break the solid mass of cheese powder up and it would only break up into big chunks and yet again the chunks didn't dissolve. I couldn't believe it. And that is an expensive brand because it's organic and all that. But yet they're always in the clearance aisle. I understand now why. I'm assuming that because they're organic it doesn't have the chemical in the cheese that would keep it free-flowing whatever that is silicon dioxide or something like that. Next time I will gently pound it with the mallet before opening the packet hopefully that will help.

My favorite thing to snack on while watching Guy's Grocery Games on Food Network is Anita's Special Chicken Parm Sandwich. I take 2 slices of pepperoni and bacon pizza with extra cheese that I use for the bread. I put a nice thick piece of chicken parmesan in between the pizza slice. Before closing the sandwich, I smoother the chicken parm in extra red gravy, extra mozzarella cheese, and Frenchโ€™s Original Crispy Fried Onions. Then I take clarified butter and slather the backsides of the pizza slices before putting the sandwich in the oven until the cheese has melted with tiny brown char marks on them. I like to pair this with beer-battered onion rings, jalapeno poppers, and a Diet Coke without ice.

I see you like low calorie meals.

Clarified butter. Nice touch.

BTW, Beef Stroganoff is a local favorite here in Reno, NV. Quite popular.

reply

Interesting. I didn't know that.

I LOVE Beef Stroganoff over rice or egg noodles! My secret ingredients in the gravy are fresh lemon juice, organic ketchup, sour cream, and au jus made from prime rib or brisket and roasted beef neck bones. Chef's kiss!
