steve martin is and was never funny. see the pink panther remake for evidence.

I like the "American Pie" movies (not the spin-offs).

reply

ME TOO...I GREW WITH THE FLICKS...THE FIRST CAME OUT MY SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL...I ALSO REALLY ENJOY THE HEART/HUMOR COMBO.

reply

It is still funny to watch from time to time Finchy, Stifler, Jim...😉

reply

I ENJOY THAT THE CHARACTERS HAVE GONE THROUGH DIFFERENT PHASES OF LIFE...I CAN ALWAYS RELATE TO THE PIE FLICKS.

reply

I think R. Lee Ermey's performance as Gny. Sgt. Hartman in "Full Metal Jacket" is the greatest acting performance of all time.

reply

that's high praise.

reply

Yes...I doubt many people will agree with me, but that's OK. 😃 I know he was a drill sergeant at one time in his life, but he was actually quite a bit different than Hartman, IMO. I never met him in person, but I saw some interviews with him and he came across to me as being a very thoughtful, intelligent person. I think his performance in "FMJ" was so great that it completely overshadows the rest of the movie. Maybe that's actually what Kubrick was going for, I don't know...but his presence definitely hangs over the second half of the movie.

Other great acting performances (IMO)...Edward Norton in "Primal Fear," Lionel Barrymore in "It's A Wonderful Life," Robert Judd as The Devil in "Crossroads," Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men," and others. But there's just something about Ermey's performance that sticks with me, over 35 years later.

Steven Spielberg: vastly overrated director.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind: truly awful.

As many great movies that have been made regarding The Civil War, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, etc., I'd like to see someone in Hollywood like to make a movie about the Korean War/Conflict/whatever you want to call it. My late father fought in Korea...I think it had a major impact on the rest of his life.

reply

yes, i agree. the korean war is vastly overlooked by hollywood.

reply

I miss James Franco.

reply

nah

I find The Unforgiven to be tedious and heavy handed. I only enjoy the finale.
I think Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are Christmas movies.
Sucker Punch has an intelligent story/directing combo (and I'm no Snyder schill)

... and my usual answers that get me dodging tomatoes:

I think Casablanca is an overrated 7.5/10 movie that gets treated like a 10/10 movie.
I dislike Lawrence of Arabia. I like much of the cinematography and a few well scripted scenes but give it a 4/10.

reply

I ENJOY NFORGIVEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH...THER THAN THAT...I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU...LAWRENSE IS MY FATHER'S FAVORITE MOVIE...I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

reply

Agree on almost everything, slightly disagree with Casablanca...I'd give it an 8, and Lawrence of Arabia I'd give a 6.

reply

I find Casablanca to be an average film. I also think LoA is overly long and quite dull at times. But yes it is beautifully filmed.

reply

The first half of ' Lawrence of Arabia ' is magnificent but the second half is a bore.

reply

Unforgiven went down from a 8 to a 7 for me on rewatch.

Sucker punch is a 8/10 for sure.

reply

I don't think that's a controversial opinion at all.

The Shawshank Redemption sucks big time.

reply

what about green mile?

reply

Yuck, no.

reply

Lol

Empire Strikes Back is the only SW film where the good guys win.
