If the USA went completely evil?

If for some reason the US went completely off the rails and decided to try to take over as many countries as possible. How long would it take to stop us, and who would do it?

TRICK QUESTION...ANYTIME WE DECIDED TO DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT...WE WOULD.

I was thinking of why England is so powerful, when its so small. How do did they control so much, and be so small. Then I thought, what could we/USA do if we really wanted to take down the world. Just a random thought.

reply

A LARGE COUNTRY POPULATED ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY BY INTOXICATED ASSHOLES WITH INFLATED EGOS...WE ARE NOT TO BE TRIFLED WITH.

reply

Having the most powerful navy in the world kind of helped England out there.

reply

You're one of the smartest people here. Explain why Russia decided to take over a neighbor and no one stopped them.

reply

I don't know if I'm qualified to unpack the specific motives behind invading Ukraine (which is what I'm presuming you're asking about). However, broadly speaking the vast majority of wars and conquests boil down to land - sometimes for resources, sometimes for religious/political significance, sometimes because of a pretty lady over there who made a despot's pee-pee tingle, among other reasons.

With Ukraine in particular, it represents a strategic border as well as representing a holdover idea from the Soviet era. Essentially there is a widely instilled belief that Ukraine never really became its own nation and still "belongs" to Mother Russia.

Why no nation has sent its own troops (as opposed to NATO, which is a collective body of states rather than a single nation) is largely motivated by avoiding a formal declaration of war. If any single country sent its own military to fight alongside Ukrainians, that would open the door to a lot more international conflict.

That's the best I can make sense of it. I'm by no means an expert on the subject despite having sometimes been called in to do a political science/world conflict course at the last minute and staying a week or two ahead of the students in terms of the textbook.

reply

Your exactly right. No one wanted to upset things. Ukraine technically wasn't part of things. Use that as a reason not to help. Lets not upset things. First world countries aren't used to this type of situation. It threw everyone, but it makes me mad that no one stepped forward. Everyone's so civilized that they don't know how to react to something so out of bounds for a first world country.

reply

Its the first conflict between first world nations over a European country, in the nuclear age. Many/most surprised that Russia has encountered so much effective resistance, that the West would counter so effectively, most importantly that the Ukrainians would have been so fierce & adept at defending themselves.

Where it all ends, who can say. If nothing else, Russia is rediscovering, as the US keeps rediscovering, that bullying about other nations isn't as easy as it might have appeared from the brochures.

reply

It's unlikely. There were times particularly after WW2 when people in Australia made noises about becoming America's 51st State. And Australia has encouraged America to build full military bases for itself here but America is having none of it. If China becomes a real problem that might change of course.

reply

This is just a completely fantastical question. Its not going to happen. Its just interesting to think about. What if we decided to take over Canada, would the UK come to help.

I think we all thought someone would help Ukraine, but that didn't really happen.

reply

America is a global military super power but it has never been in the Empire business it seems to me. Canada is a good example. If America had wanted to it could have absorbed Canada but it never did.

reply

True I don't think the US would have to invade Canada. They could probably convince Canada to join them in becoming an even bigger country "North America". After that Mexico would freely join too. For all of America's flaws it is still a country that is a good neighbor. One that doesn't like bullys and usually will stand up to them. That's why this situation seems a bit strange.

reply

MEXICO WOULD PAY US TO JOIN UP.

reply

But the US would get them on a layaway program. 50,000 payments over 100 years but then turn around and forgive the debt.

reply

UGH...I WANT TO OBJECT BUT SEE THAT AS AN ACTUAL POSSIBILITY.

reply

like the wall?

reply

PAYING US TO KEEP THEM OUT...NO BUENO...PAYING US BECOME ONE...MUY BUENO.

reply

CANADA IS THE UKRAINE OF THE AMERICAS...THE UK WILL WATCH US TAKE OVER ON THE NEWS AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT ON THE INTERNET THOUGH.

reply

I don't know who shamed me on this site about saying "the" Ukraine, but they did their job. I feel this stab of stupidity everytime I say "The" Ukraine. Lets all help the Ukraine. Man that person got under my skin. Good job bastard:)

reply

I FIGURE I WILL WORRY ABOUT SAYING THEIR NAME CORRECTLY WHEN THEY ACCOMPLISH SOMETHING THAT MERITS MY TIME...SEND A NUKE RIGHT UP PUTIN'S ASSHOLE...I WILL START CALLING THEM GREAT & POWERFUL UKRAINE™️.

reply

But seriously we're talking about things that seem fantastical, USA taking over Canada, but Russia did take over a neighbor Ukraine. When it happened I thought, this won't stand, Europe will defend, but they didn't...... Its old news now, so who cares, oh yeah the people who don't have a country anymore.

reply

russia is bogged down in ukraine. they haven't taken over anything at this point.

reply

I DON'T MEAN TO SEEM HEARTLESS...I AM THE OPPOSITE ACTUALLY...HOWEVER...I DO NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO FEEL BAD,SAD,WORRY FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT REAL TO ME...PEOPLE I AM NOT ACTUALLY AMONGST COUNT ABOUT AS MUCH AS INSECTS TO MY BRAIN...I EXPECTED A LOT OF COUNTRIES TO COME TO UKRAINE'S AID...OURSELVES INCLUDED...FUCK RUSSIA.

reply

I'm no bleeding heart, I just don't like that we all had rules, you save the little guy, thats the US matra, and that did not happen.

It just made me think if the USA was ruled by an egotistical wack job who decided to take over Mexico, who would help them. My honest answer is no one. Lets all imagine that happening if T comes to pass again. Who's flying in, sailing in to help Mexico against us. Again this is all Sci-Fi fan fiction stuff.

reply

WHEN WE INVADE MEXICO AND TURN IT INTO OUR LARGEST BEACH VACATION SPOT...REMEMBER...YOU PUT THE IDEA OUT THERE.🙂

reply

Oh its happening.... I want the end point of the country to be called Cancrum.....Cancun and Crum.

reply

NICE...YOU GOT IT.

reply

Canada being in the commonwealth likely stopped any US take over attempt in centuries gone by. They would be taking on multiple countries, not just Canada. Then Europe would get dragged into it. It'd be like WWII but backwards 😔

reply

So you're saying if Ukraine had joined , that everyone would have mobilized and helped them defend their country against Russia. So this is like, Hey sorry you didn't fill out the form to join us, we could have helped you but, ahhh now too much trouble.

reply

Pretty much yeah. If they were in NATO that is what would have happened.

reply

YUP...AGREE...SILLY AND SAD...BUT VERY TRUE.

reply

the army is no where near big enough. check out vietnam and iraq.

reply

IF WE WERE TAKING THIS SHIT OVER...WE WOULD ALL BE JOINING UP.

reply

I've had this discussion with other people, and because of natural resources, I'm not entirely sure that it would be our allies who would come to Canada's defense. I think it would could start a world war just because Canada is part Nato. I'm not sure how the other members would react to that sort of aggression.

China also has the largest military in the world and may not stand for that either.

reply

how big do you think america is compared to the rest of the world?

reply

IRRELEVANT...WE ARE BIG,ANGRY AND AWESOME...I HAVE A LOT OF PRIDE IN MY COUNTRY AND OUR HISTORY...I TRULY BELIEVE WE ARE CAPABLE OF KICKING ANYONE'S ASS.

reply

too fat to fight

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11185413/Four-star-general-says-Americans-obese-criminal-join-armed-forces-defend.html

reply

YEAH...WHO THE FUCK WANTS TO ENLIST IN THE ARMY?...I GET THAT...UNTIL WE HAVE A REASON...THAT'S WHEN SHIT GETS SCARY FOR EVERYONE ELSE...PEARL HARBOR COMES TO MIND...WE HATE EACH OTHER MORE THAN ANYTHING EXCEPT SOMEBODY ELSE FUCKING WITH US...A UNIFYING MOMENT LIKE THAT WOULD BE BAD BAD BAD NEWS FOR THE AGGRESSOR...ASK JAPAN.

reply

The Vietcongs were probably too skinny to fight. Yet they're winning.

reply

they weren't drinking beer and smoking weed.

reply

Obesity seems to be a North American problem because it affecting Canada as well. Its creeping into Western Europe, too, but at a slower rate. Public schools need to do a better job with teaching health and wellness.

https://globalnews.ca/news/3017931/report-suggests-three-quarters-of-canadian-forces-personnel-are-overweight-obese/

reply

If you think that health and wellness are the biggest problems in schools. I have a classroom you can check out.

reply

Biggest problem? No, I didn't say that, but I think putting a better emphasis on health and fitness would do a lot of good.

reply

JUST TO BE CLEAR...THE SCHOOLS TEACH HEALTH AND WELLNESS QUITE WELL...THE DUMBASS IPHONE PARENTS ARE THE ONES WHO IGNORE THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES.

reply

Just for fun I'm going to repeat a parent text to the teacher I work for, lets all remember she makes 35k a year ..."Hey I know you had sex with my babydaddy but we can still be friends. If you want we can switch my kids class to another teacher." True Text.

Depends on the school, but health literacy has been declining for a long time and physical education is now doge ball and other useless games. Hell, some schools are even banning that!

Parents absolutely play a big part of this too. Everyone needs to step up.

reply

THIS IS NOT THE CASE IN MY AREA...I CAN'T SPEAK FOR OTHERS...MY DAUGHTER COMPLAINS ABPOUT THE LACK OF USELESS GAMES LIKE DODGEBALL IN HER P.E. CLASSES.

Militarily? Boy, it's hard to say.

Have you gone mad-crazy-evil and tried to invade everyone all at the same time, or strategic-crazy-evil and started to knock off other nations like dominoes?

In the first version, you're a wee bit overstretched. In the second version, you give most of us time to prepare and remilitarise while you get bogged down fighting guerrillas in... um... I dunno... Tuvalu.

Also, it raises the important question of how you prioritise: nearest countries geographically first, or in alphabetical order so it's more of a challenge?

reply

since the majority of americans are unhealthy & unfit we could train the migrants who flood our southern borders & use them to overtake all off South america, it'd take a couple weeks to overtake Canada.

reply

Then the Armed Forces would likely turn against the Government. Hypothetically speaking though, it would be bloody at first, but the rest of the world would attack us both economically and militarily, leading to our demise.

reply

That's fiction? There's certainly some irony in your post because the U.S. has tried to take over many countries, from Vietnam to Iraq.

reply

There was a time between the end of WWII and the Korean War when the USA held a nuclear monopoly. We also had forces positioned across Europe, Asia and the Pacific at the close of WWII.

I think that is the time period where this “what if” scenario could be interestingly played out.
