What do you think Jesus was like?
Historians have said he was a good preacher and was charismatic. He'd probably be someone I'd be willing to listen to (like someone today giving a good TED talk) and I'd agree with some of his ideas.

shareIdk, his Judaism sect did not go very far. It's actually Paul who build Christianity as we know today.
shareI feel sorry for his younger brother -

Intelligent, charismatic, cultured and sophisticated but over-ambitious and deluded.
cultured? he was poor, illiterate and never travelled.

In the documentary the Biblical scholars make the point that Jesus is commonly thought to have been a poor, illiterate peasant who grew up in Nazareth which was a tiny place in the middle of nowhere so to speak.
But actually Nazareth was only four miles from Sepphoris the "capital city" of the Galilee. It is thought that although Jesus may have been born in Nazareth he probably worked in Sepphoris and so would likely not have been an ignorant peasant.
he was a day laborer.
sharePossibly yes. But if the sayings of Jesus in the New Testament were approximately faithful recountings of his actual words ( rather than being written by later authors and just ascribed to Jesus ) then he was an educated man, not some ignorant hick from the sticks.
he was perceptive and had streets smarts and was able to read the political situation around him. he was not an educated man.
shareOpinions differ and no-one knows really. But if Jesus had been able to read the political situation around him I doubt he would have ended up on a cross crying out "My God why have you forsaken me !?"
he was good at reading the anger of the poor masses. he was blissfully ignorant of the power dynamic.
shareKind and compassionate yet very firm.

In the final days of his life, he clearly suffered from a pretty serious hang up
Seems like a chill dude.
shareI’ve always wondered what his relationship with Joseph was like when he was growing up. Does the Bible mention it at all? Like when Joseph said he couldn’t go hang with the other kids at the oasis because he hadn’t done his homework, did he run to his room crying “you can’t tell me what to do, you’re not even my real Dad!”?
I think those teenage years need to be dramatised so these questions are answered. Galilee 90210, anyone?
