Speaking for my personal stomping grounds New York City still requires masks in public and the county I live in nearly 60 miles upstate from the city has begun to experience a 9% gain in Covid cases

There was a mask warning sign on my local Deli today...brace yourselves, things are getting very weird again !

They are saying to watch the data from South Africa and what’s beginning to happen in the UK. North America should be several weeks behind them.

reply

Man, I feel like this stuff wont go away!
We seriously need to shut down travel and immigration for a while here, I'd normally not say that but wow, we could get real deep into this stuff again and it can wreck our economy and our jobs

reply

I don’t think that’s going to be effective based on how contagious this strain is. The silver lining is that so far in SA it was much less deadly. Also it reached its peak within 3 weeks. The other strains had a much longer duration.

You know more than I and I appreciate that, I just think we should close the doors for a year, no offense intended to anybody but WE need to keep the lights on

reply

“WE need to keep the lights on” You know that’s right!

As much as our strength has come from immigration and most of us remember our immigrant family histories here in The United States
I think it's time to lock the doors for a bit

No hate, just watching out for the house

reply

The UK just had their most cases in a 24 hour period since the virus began.

reply

They are saying 8 times more contagious.

reply

To be fair, it was a deli. They could just be taking extra precaution because it's food.

reply

I hope so

But some are walking around with masks FAR outside the city now...It's weird here!

reply

Those are called robbers.

reply

At this point Robbers would be less troublesome!

reply

I think so. Still have fans in the stands. Some games might get postponed, but I think they'll go forward.

reply

Yes, it's all about the almighty dollar.

reply

No, it's about getting back to living normal lives as the pandemic enters an endemic stage, (which is what I think all indications point to Omicron being.). At what point does all of this stop? We will never eradicate Covid, so every time a new variant pops up are we suddenly going to revert back to 2020?

I'm fully vaccinated and boosted and followed all of the rules last year, but unless something happens over the next month to convince me differently, I'm done with all of the craziness.

Nah, too much money would be lost.

they shut down in 2020

The answer to your question is yes. I remember at the start of the pandemic some people were wondering if the NFL season would be called off. Someone asked me about this and I said there's no way the playoffs and Super Bowl would ever be cancelled. There's too much advertising revenue to be made, especially during the Super Bowl when you have people watching the event for the stupid commercials!

It's all about money, not sports.

reply

they could play with no fans in the stadium.

reply

Just like last year, but unless a particular area prohibits mass gatherings, football will continue into the post season - with or without fans in attendance. My guess is the stadiums will be packed.

reply

NY politicians seem bent on self destruction.

reply

who cares? sports are boring unless it is fighting or extreme sports

reply

i disagree

Fortunately, you can change channels.
