Favorite Action Movies of All Time?

1. John Wick---10/10
2. The Raid: Redemption---10/10
3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier---9.5/10

4. Transformers: Dark of the Moon--(while I do not consider this a good and I believe the first half of the movie is awful...its my opinion the last hour / finale of this film is incredible and some of the best mindless action put on film)

5. Mad Max: Fury Road--9.5/10
6. Mission: Impossible - Fallout --9.5/10
7. John Wick: Chapter 2--8.5/10
8. Terminator 2: Judgment Day--10/10
9. Predator --9/10

10. Transformers--9/10( I'm in the minority here, this is the only Transformers film I actually think it's a decent overall movie and again I think the action during the film and climax are incredible)

11. Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation --9.5/10

12. Casino Royale--9.5/10( I think Casino Royale is actually a slightly better movie than Rogue Nation, both have incredible action but the difference for me came down to if you watch these two films back to back it really sticks out during the action scenes of Casino Royale that Craig had a stunt double most of the major action sequences and because Cruise did his own stunts on Rogue Nation, for me the action scenes are just a little bit better, and this is something I would not notice probably had I not watched the movies back to back)

13. Gladiator--9.5/10
14. The Expendables 2 --9/10
15. The Expendables--9/10
16. The Night Comes for Us --9/10
17. The Raid 2--8.5/10
18. The Rock--9/10
19. The Matrix--9.5/10
20. Olympus Has Fallen --8.5/10
21. The Bourne Identity--9/10
22. The Bourne Ultimatum--9/10( I feel TBU has the better action sequences but TBI is overall the slightly better movie)
23. John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum--8/10

** I also want to note that I agree movies like The Terminator,
Aliens, Die Hard, Speed, First Blood, Rambo 2, Léon: The Professional and many others are some of the BEST action movies of all time but just not my favorite

**I also would probably have the Lord of the rings trilogy ranked very high but I do not feel it fits the typical "action movie genre" I consider them to be fantasy films more than action movies but I do have the opinion that the action in the Lord of the rings trilogy is all time great

Snake Plissken says, "Hold my beer."

The Matrix (single-handedly revolutionized the whole action movie industry worldwide!)

Terminator 2 (legendary action, breakthrough CGI)

Ong Bak (raw hard-hitting action)

Avengers: Age of Ultron (stupid plot, great action)

'80s and '90s Jackie Chan's movies (really, who doesn't love them?)

Universal Soldier (Van Damme vs Dolph Lundgren? Epic.)

John Wick (technical perfection)

Inception (thinking man's action movie)

The Bourne 1-3 (invented shaky cam, now despised, but at the time it was super cool)

The Raid 1 & 2 (low budget action done right)

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (absolute wire-fu excelence)

Hero (another wire-fu eye-feast)

Equilibrium (peak gun-fu)

Cool picks, except Olympus has fallen.

I’m just gonna throw a few titles that often get forgotten:

Desperado

Banlieu 13

Hard boiled

The protector

Unleashed

Black mask

Project A

Police story

The villainesse

reply

Police story

finally caught that last year. haven't done the sequels yet. really should get cracking on that.

The villainesse

the action scenes in that film are craaaaazy. great. but it had a bit too much plot for me. if it had been a little leaner and less cluttered, it would be on my alltime list, definitely. absolutely worth watching just for the action.

reply

FUCKING DESPERADO...I WATCHED THAT DAMN MOVIE 100 TIMES WHEN IT CAME OUT...AMAZING FLICK...STILL IN MY ALL TIME TOP 100.

reply

The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
The Last Samurai (2003)
Total Recall (1990)

reply

Damn I love Excalibur and it really just isn’t talked about enough. Has the tale of Arthur ever been told on film with more greatness than this?

reply

Agreed- Excalibur is a very special movie to me for so many reasons.

reply

mad max fury road

reply

Agreed on Commando. 👍

reply

have you ever seen deadbeat at dawn? i think it might be right up your alley, perhaps...

reply

No I haven’t. Should I be looking that one up?

reply

Ok I just did. Lol

I’ll be looking for it tonight.

reply

it's on tubitv!

i love it so much.

no pressure, but if you don't love it i may die inside a little.

reply

Holy shit! I can’t believe the dude put his woman in the trash compactor!

reply

Wow! What an insane film that is so damn raw and dark. I actually stopped and rewatched the scene with the crazy dude talking about hating everyone before going into the hero’s apartment while only his girl is home. I mean in one sense the film is so low budget and odd, but damn it’s got heart. I’m camping tonight or I’d be watching this again. Loved it. 👍

reply

i'm genuinely happy to hear that. it is absolutely one of my favourite movies.

if one of your friends had a good-quality camcorder in the 80s, & you decided to make a film, in your dreams it would turn out looking like this.

ugly, grungy, & so, so great.

i'm gonna watch it again soon. maybe today.

reply

It really is one of those film that seems to not have anything else like it that I know of. Sure, there are lots of revenge / gang films from the 80’s but the feel of this one is pretty unique. The only one I can think of that gets somewhere in the neighborhood of this is Combat Shock (1984), but it doesn’t reach the action greatness of this.

reply

I’m back in town so tonight I’m going to give it a 2nd viewing.

reply

if you're interested, jim van bebber (the director/star/everything of deadbeat...) also made a manson family film that i really, really like.

it's silly and tasteless, but i think it has a scuzzy vibe that i can't get enough of. i've watched it 7 times in the last year according to my letterboxd account. don't judge me too harshly, lol.

i'm not quite as confident recommending this like i was with deadbeat..., but if you think you might be interested, it's on tubi.

I was looking it up on justwatch.com to see where else I could find it and I came across a startling find. Arrow has a streaming service. 😳

reply

holy cow, i'd seen there was an 'arrow' streaming service, but i'd never put it together than it must be affiliated with the physical media company. how silly of me not to have made that connection.

it's only $50/yr. haven't looked at their catalogue yet, but i'm pretty sure i'm gonna sign up.

reply

If they have the library I’m thinking they might, I may have what some people refer to as a nerd-gasm.

reply

i'm browsing through, and there's tons of great stuff there.
i've seen a lot of it already, of course, but there's lots that i haven't and lots that i've never heard of.

thanks for letting us know about this.

now i just have to figure out which streaming service i'm going to drop, cuz i surely can't justify paying for 7 streaming services.

or can i?...

reply

Do you know of anywhere online I can get a list of what Arrow is currently streaming?

reply

i think this will give you what you're looking for - justwatch isn't always 100% up to date, but it's the best service i know of that will give you this kind of stuff.
