The Elephant Man. Apologies if this is a generic or predictable response but this film just has sadness and hopelessness seeping through it as far as I’m concerned. I genuinely sobbed the first time viewing it and I go out of my way to avoid it intentionally nowadays, even though I know it’s a masterpiece of cinema.
I do love that song so much. I think the fade in adds to the haunting atmosphere.
When I visited Finland, I tried reindeer tagliatelle at an airport restaurant. It was quite a strong but pleasant flavour and I feel quite guilty for saying that as they’re such beautiful creatures, but it was the only thing on the menu that sounded ok. 😅
I’m imagining a fair few people can attribute their deep-rooted fear of abduction by aliens with that movie. 😆

There were plenty of films. They were usually quirky, low budget films from the 80’s-90’s. I was terrified of Fire in the Sky, Watcher in the Woods, Return to Oz, The Haunting (the 1963 one, not the terrible remake) etc. Anything to do with the unknown with dark, unusual and shocking scenes. I was terrified and fascinated in equal measure.
I think they have the potential to be really good but I’d argue that they’re inherently flawed. I worry that modern day technology and general cynicism makes it incredibly difficult nowadays to pull them off as ‘genuine’ found footage films, the same way the Cannibal Holocaust and Blair Witch Project phenomenon played out years ago.
