Does Sam Elliot Annoy You?

Do you perhaps find him a bit precious ?

Because, well... you know... I do. Always with the smug, self-satisfied shit-eating grin.

I think you either get a kick out of the guy or want to drop kick him.

What say you, MC nation ?

reply

Hell yes. I cringe when I see he/she/it's photo on the main page here. Like enough already, lol.

reply

Ooops. I thought you meant "Elliot Page". The transgender dude/dudette/it.

reply

Thank you for being inclusive and adding her "its" pronouns.

reply

NO...HE KILLED HITLER...AND THEN BIGFOOT...PLUS HE KNOWS THE DUDE...HE IS AWESOME!

reply

i'm sure that is the majority opinion. people really dig his schtick. but not everyone.

reply

Elliot is an interesting screen presence, but I get the impression he is a bit full of himself too. Best film Frogs.

If you get a chance, watch Lifeguard (1976).

an aging lifeguard ponders his future while dealing with a young teenager who has a crush on him.

(Spoiler, he bangs her)

From a time when this type of movie could be made.

GOOD FLICK.

reply

It is a pretty good film!

Do you have it in DVD? Is it available?

reply

IM NOT SURE ON DVD ... I OWN A VHS COPY.

reply

I own Lifeguard (1976) on DVD, so yes, it is still available.
In fact, the film just arrived from Amazon two days ago.
I decided to buy it after I scrolled through all the films listed in the link on that 1970's films thread, and I remembered how much I liked the film when I saw it oh so long ago.
I have placed the Lifeguard DVD right next to my DVD of Big Wednesday (1978) in my video collection.

As for whether or not Sam Elliot annoys me, no, he does not.
So sometime today I might just buy Road House (1989) on DVD or Blu-ray.

Edit: Just placed my order for Road House on Blu-ray as well as the Blu-ray for Point Break (1991).

Also throwing in a recommendation for Lifeguard. One correction, though: Elliott gets together with his old high school sweetheart played by Anne Archer, not the Wendy girl.

reply

Yes in the end, but I was very surprised that the movie shows a love making scene with what was most probably a underage girl (in the story) and a man in his mid thirties.

1970's were a different time when such dalliances caused little uproar.

reply

You might be misremembering things. The lovemaking scene is with the Anne Archer character, his old high school flame. Wendy (Kathleen Quinlan) comes onto Rick pretty strongly throughout the movie, but their relationship amounts to a lot of risque flirting before he lets her down gently in the end.

reply

Mixed feelings. He has seemed so elderly for so long, that this here doesn't seem like the same person, he did one season of Mission: Impossible (Season 5)
