Can you tell the difference between the taste of butter and Margarine?

I can't tell the difference. They both taste the same to me.

reply

Margarine, if you examine it closely on your tongue, does have a faint feeling and texture of plastic. Butter is just butter.

reply

The difference is very clear.

My parents are from Cherbourg, France and would be appalled by the idea that margarine could taste anything like butter and I kind of thought that it was just French snobbery because as a culture the French are extremely proud of their culinary prowess lol

Once I moved out and had my own place I bought margarine as kind of a 'who cares?' kind of attitude. It was DRASTICALLY different to my tastes after a lifetime of French, butter-rich foods. I could taste it immediately. I tried it on a piece of bread afterwards and I knew what it was, it was an artificially flavored plant oil, the artificial butter flavor tasted metallic to me. I tried a few other brands and it always came down to that, you just can't compare dairy to oil in my opinion.

Butter is better. It tastes a little creamier.

Yes, and I think there's a large difference. Depending on the margarine, it is much sweeter imo.
