Why did Hitler scapegoat the Jews?

Why them specifically? Why not blacks, Asians, gays, etc?

reply

he was a loser psychopath.

reply

Excuse me Eric, but the word "scapegoat" is a poor choice of words for this subject matter.

Persecute and murder is much more accurate.

reply

Seems a tad overanalytical.

reply

"Seems a tad overanalytical."
WRONG.
Using the word scapegoat lessens the horror about what really happened.
I suggest you take a trip to Poland and visit Auschwitz. If that's too long of a trip for you, get your ass to the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC.
Maybe that would open your eyes so that you could learn what true inhuman brutality really is.

reply

Really, they had to start somewhere to get to where it ended.
There would have been no brutality in Auschwitz without the scapegoating.

reply

^^this. I asked a harmless question and CKid got all offended about it. Geez! I'm guessing he or she has lost relatives in WW2 which probably explains the overreaction to my question. He/she seems to think I'm downplaying the Holocaust which is simply not true.

reply

To be fair though, it is a very touchy subject to many people for understandable reasons.
Some of these people didn't lose relatives in the WW2 though.
They just like to be offended by even the smallest thing about this subject anyway.

reply

I agree with Ckid , although the word is technically correct , just about , it hardly fits.
and certainly ,as ckid said , in no way conveys what happened,
Armchair racists "scapegoat" immigrants and blame them for not having a job - thats little diffferent to murdering millions of them.

Also the other part of your post:
"Why them specifically? Why not blacks, Asians, gays, etc?"
Shows monumental ignorance on the subject!
But well done for showing some interest and you have started a conversation that the adults can take from here.
If you read all the replies you will undoubtedly learn something, given your starting point.
Just remember these are random forum posters , not historians and you might want to fact check any of the points you find interesting

reply

Thank you, moviechatterer.

And Eric56, you are absolutely correct about that fact that I lost relatives in the Holocaust.

First off, if you haven't already surmised this, I am Jewish.
My paternal grandfather and three of his brothers came to the US from Lithuania. His nine other siblings as well as his parents (my great grandfather was an Orthodox Rabbi) did not and they were all wiped out in the Holocaust.

My paternal grandmother was also from Lithuania. She came to the States with one of her sisters. Her other sister and brother did not, thus they and their parents were also gassed.

My maternal grandmother was originally from Berlin. Those in her family who came here pre-WWI survived and thrived. Those who did not died in the Holocaust.

My maternal grandfather was originally from Hungary. He and one of his brothers came here pre-WWI. His five other siblings did not and also perished in the Holocaust.

That is why I find the term "scapecoat" to be a total misrepresentation of the horror of what happened.

reply

How about Genocidal maniac?

reply

opportunism. jews didnt actually had the best lobby, so it was easy to turn the hate on them. they also were reasonably wealthy, so confiscating their belongings would finance the war and then they got turned into free workers(slaves).
there were no blacks or other minorities in europe at that time. gays got imprisoned and murdered as well.

reply

Lots of complicated history with Russia.

reply

Hitler was dumb to break the pact with Stalin. Foolish move on his part. Likely costed him the war.

reply

the amount of tanks and troops the russian had it was very likely they were preparing for an attack on europe already. hitler pretty much fought them off by attacking first.

reply

Because socialism always needs somebody else to blame and somebody else to steal from.
